New article by Hiroshige Goto (RSX)

Oh man, what a headache...

I don't think they went into anything new there, but they did a good job of consolidating info, and they put a little more emphasis on the FlexIO implementation, which I thought was nice.

I actually don't get the feeling they were claiming to have anything new either - which I generally hope for in these tech articles out of Japan - so it seems even they aren't saying this is 100% the case; though they indicate it likely is.

Still, with a machine translation...

We'll need one or someone else to give us a synopsis. 8)

I could *see* where Goto is getting the ~400 Gflops for RSX from, though he's including some programmable 16bit Flops in there with 32bit programmable Flops IIRC.

Also the Xenos ~ 240 Gflops is actually ~ 216 Gflops, 32bit programmable, according to this ATI presentation (and some other sources),

At 16 basic units at 3 blocks and total 48 ????????. The floating point real number (FP) with the vector which is formed (SIMD) it is the image of the computing element as a substance. Vector operation of 4 elements (sum of products calculation) with scalar FP operation (1 element FP) simultaneously 1 cycle (the clock) with it is possible to do. Per 1 cycle (4 element ×2 operations +1 scalar operation) to become ×48=432flop, because Xbox 360-GPU is driven 500MHz, peak efficiency becomes 432*500MHz=216GFLOPS with just ????.

How many of them in 32bit?

Deano Cleaver speaks a fluent engrish. This is a matter of public record.

He will decipher this ill-written english in not time, and then he will sum the whole article in a short and comprehensive sentence like "after reading this article, I can confidently declare that PS3 is now officially doomed. It all over!" "or "This speculative article is the answer I craved for, Xbox 360 will never resist the phenomenal power of the PS3, I, for one, welcome chang3."

Leave the guy alone!! He's trying to get HS to run at a decent framerate!! What's he gonna say if HS ships running at 15fps? "Sorry i had to answers the kids on B3D!" ?

 seriously

more and more posters signing up to grab a sound bite and run back to their respective system wars forum to post the latest.... "well deanoC and B3D said....!" :p

If I was Deano I'd make up all sorts of rubbish just to cynically manipulate a public desperation for knowledge :devilish:

So true... it's really becoming endemic. It's kind of hilarious in a way though - people with one post count or something show up: "DeanoC - we demand answers!"

So what type of data gets transferred on the fast FexIO bus? I didn't think the GPU needed such a large pipe for command data.
textures, fragments (color/z), vertices...everything! :)

Dave could do the same thing....;)

Nah it's not the same though - afterall Dave runs the site. It's the difference between individuals coming in off the street for the bartender vs a certain bar patron.

Can you imagine if this forum really was say a bar somehwere? And everyone's there hanging out and every now and then this young crazed lookign individual wearing either an XBox or Sony t-shirt comes in and says: "I need to talk to DeanoC... It's a matter of grave importance."

And there's Deano rolling his eyes in the corner. ;)

(PS - Besides, I'd say Dave already does it anyway with his signature one line non-answer answers)

Well, according to above, the 'normalise' is a 16bit, 7 Flops/cycle, per fragment pipe,

7 Flops/cycle * 24 Fragment pipes * 0.55 GHz ~ 92.4 Gflops, 16bit.

So RSX ~ 400 - 92.4
~ 308 Gflops, 32bit. + 'free' 16bit normalise

Though I'm not sure if you could add the 4 flops/cycle from the 2 mini-ALUs per fragment pipe...

Ugh, we've had enough megatons this Summer to last a lifetime, thank you. :lol And once the floodgates open, some of the pressure can life from Deano's shoulder's. But being the first on the mic is a double-edged sword. Ninja Theory is getting some good PR, but I bet his PM box is filled with all sorts of inane requests. :? PEACE.

Very different. Xenos is a GPU. Cell is a CPU. GPU's have lots of flops, but you can only use them for rendering (well, you can use them for other things but that's in its infancy at the moment)
