CVG learns two new versions of the Xbox 360 controller are doing the developer rounds

Speaking this afternoon to CVG, Konami's PES producer Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka has revealed he's currently in possession of two new Xbox 360 controllers and is playing around with them at the PES HQ.

Microsoft sent Seabass the two controllers to allow him to test re-mapped button configurations for PES, the best footy game in town, presumably to make the game as playable on an Xbox 360 pad as it is on the PS2.

I'd like to think one of them is a updated version of the current pad, but with better triggers and Dpad etc.....and the other is something specialist.

...like a tilt sensor with EIGHT axes! ;)
Working in the fourth dimension it allows movement forwards and backwards through time. I had heard some rumours about that months back. MS were supposedly working with Ubisoft to port the technology from POP:SOT to their new controller. This actually ties in with previous comments that companies should start using more magic in their consoles. Perhaps MS are ahead of the game in this regard?

Or did you just mean 8 sharp metallic headchoppers sticking out from the new controller?

The rumour is that the new controller will have a more specific Marketplace feature. You push the new Marketplace button on the controller and a tenticle comes out and goes directly for your wallet for you.

I hadn't given it much thought. I just knew the number would have to be higher! :p

Oh dear god on earth. If they ever switch the d-pad and analog pad like the Dual Shake I will have to kick MS squuuuuiiiiiirrrrrre in the nuts.
They already have one the other way, so why would it matter if they build another one to have a more symmetrical layout? They may not put that together in exactly the way you're thinking, though.

If that comes into fruition..then MS would be the worst kind of imiator...that would make them the last to copy after Sony and then after Wii....

no they will just tell you how how everyone just copied their sidewinder controller they put out 10 years ago and this is just revisiting that idea

A more symmetrical design, the left d-pad and analog pad change places, maybe.

I hope not, besides a hand full of games the d-pad is mostly just extra buttons, but I suppose some people like that layout better

Thats' like 10 years ago....If they were fond of their Tech. they should of used it in the get go....but it seems that they are playing catch up with the Trend that Wii set, then Sony and that is imiating of the last kind (worst).

You mean, "if that's that what they're doing." Now if they dropped rumble support, I'd agree with your "worst" kind of imitating comment.

(Also, it's 'imitating'; they are not imiators imiating, they are imitators imitating (I'm only calling you on it because you did it in two posts :p).)

More like the Reflex controller from Bodilobus, formerly known as White Fusion.

There has been a trickling of rumor on this for a while, IGN even reported on it in August (although that ended up being the new MS mouse). Oddly enough simila rumors have popped up yet again.

IGN, like others, have been really positive on the TB Gamepad. This is what they said recently:

As I discussed in the hands-on report, after a period of adjustment, I left fully convinced the BodieLobus offered a new level of precision in console FPS control. Quoted from my E3 report: "The critical difference I discovered between playing a FPS with the BodieLobus Reflex Control and a standard analog stick is the fact that the BodieLobus' track ball directly controls the speed of view movement, as opposed to the variable acceleration applied by an analog stick. Moving the track-ball a little moved the view a little, but at the same speed at which I spun the ball, as opposed to a little movement on an analog stick moving the view at a slower pace than a full push to a corner. Once my brain learned not to compensate for an analog stick's acceleration, I attained a level of accuracy I had never experienced without a mouse and keyboard combination."

Anyhow, MS has had two incidents now discussing new controllers with the intent to improve FPS on the 360, which doesn't seem out of whack considering "Live Anywhere" and Vista as a platform. (Yes, I very much like some trackballs; no, I am not a big fan of thumb sticks for FPS).

Yeah...if they head in that direction....

I would disagree with you even if they had rumble they still would be "imitating"..because MS's did'nt add it on their own accord...they add it after everyone esle was doing it.

OH!..and I see you got your self into a tangent (chases his tail in circles)...
