Anandtech swapped out a CoreDuo with a Core2Duo, if that's what you're talking about.

Didn't affect the battery life, and it was a better performer.

VS. the P4, the Core, Core2, hell, even the Pentium M (which is a precursor to Core) beats that, clock for clock and watt for watt.

Ah. For Conroe that is certainly true. For notebooks, however, it is a bit different. Memron (the notebook incarnation of Conroe) is more of a natural evolution from its predecessors Pentium-M (Banias, Dothan) and Core Duo (Yonah), while on the desktop front the departure from the Netburst architecture is much more of a paradigm shift.
Yup. Their thermal specifications are about the same, so they should perform similarly in that regard. My expectation for the platform as a whole hinges on the reports that the upcoming chipsets require more power than their predecessors.

Edit: There's something strange with that Anandtech preview, though. 33W is really too much for idle. I expect that there are some ACPI sleep states not working properly on that Asus. Sadly, with the rapid product turnaround, there are often ACPI bugs impacting power consumption potentially causing two similarly specced notebooks with equal capacity battery packs to exhibit widely varying battery life.

Thanks alot for your help guys, I ordered the Dell Inspiron 6400 yesterday, it's a pretty sweet deal. I got the low end core duo (1.66ghz), 120 Gig Hard Drive, 256mb Video Card, 8x dual layer dvd burner, 2 gigs ddr2 ram, for just under 1300 canadian after tax. Once again thanks for taking the time to help me, I appreciate it. I'm sure I will enjoy my laptop, your opinions have been very helpful. I wish I could wait for the core 2 duo laptop though, but thats impossible in my current situation. I need something NOW and with the way things are going the core 2 dup laptops will probably take another month or 2 atleast to come out. BYE

And I took my own advice and bought the nc8430 HP from Newegg (with a 3-year on-site warranty since it's for business). Now I just need to swap out the memory for 2GB of 667 MHz stuff...and it should be here tomorrow :)

Bye bye 10" screen, 900 MHz Pentium M with only 512k of RAM and Intel graphics! Your 11 hr battery life was great, but I just don't like to work that much on planes and it dropped to only 4 hrs with the DVD installed. Farewell Fujitsu.

IME (and many others) they give you a ship date of a week or two, but it's usually at your door within a week after you place the order.
