MS to release Xbox 360 with HD-DVD in 2006

There's no way you could (or should!) connect the HD-DVD in place of the HD, and again re-connect the HD on the HD-DVD, that would make the whole unit hideously long!
It's difficult to imagine the HD-DVD to be stackable on top or bottom of an horizontal xbox360 either, because of the "sucky" )( design (unless they are going to make the HD-DVD unit "bulby" () , "smiley" )) or "frowny" (( depending if it's supposed to be top or bottom or versatile.
Had MS planned this more than minutes before the CES keynote, I'm sure they would have designed the xbox360 with an external/replacable HD-DVD in mind.

Well the thing has to go somewhere... If they make it look kinda like the external HDD for PS2, it might look ok. But word is that it's sandwiched between the console and the HDD, which doesn't sound right to me...

You really don't know "long". LOL I start getting visions of my PCjr and all of its expansions...

Wheres it rumered to be sittting NEXT to the unit? My guess is that it will be (if you are horizontal), under the unit, with either a USB connection or a flap on the side that extend up to snap into the HD port (it will be USB though, its plenty fast).

London, the HD DVD could plug into one of the USB sockets and I just saw a Picture of the Toshiba HD DVD player and it has a LAN connection mean that it could also connect via the ethernet port.

It's a USB drive, just like the many USB DVD drives for laptops. They are small, make very little heat, and draw all of their power from the USB port.

It will be similar to this:

How will Xbox 360 display HD content from HD-DVD, if it doesn't have a digital output chip on the current hardware for a signal out via HDMI?

MS knows something about their digital output abilitiy that we don't?

That's what they've said indeed.
M$ said they have a digital output chip?

Do you have a link for that or are you going off of the PR comment about them might offering HDMI cables?

Nope. I agree with you. The output was said to be analog only...
