MS pushing hard for devs to include online coop for X360

Interesting tidbit coming from BlimBlim on Gaming Age(he runs xboxyde.com and is the most reliable source online for X360 info)

MS is pushing hard all developers, even third party, to have lots of games featuring a coop mode. Expect any MGS title where live coop would make sense to have this mode.
I for one agree with this, I'm not a competitive player so coop is what I enjoy the most usually.

Are you serious? I didn't know that! Thats FANTASTIC news!

I'm very serious, and very happy to see this is already starting to show on the 1st wave of games.

This info came out after it was revealed Chrome Hounds will feature online coop.

So right now I know of 3 that wil feature online coop:

Gears of War
Ghost Recon 3
Chrome Hounds

will feature online coop. This is amazingly good news, Rainbow Six 3's online coop is fucking brilliant fun. Havent tried Doom 3 or Splinter Cell CS coop, but they are on my agenda before the X360 launch. Glad to see MS knows the imporance of this type of gameplay.

Thought PDZ was online coop, too.

Has that been confirmed? I heard there will be some interesting online modes besides competetive play.

That's why I don't like coop mode. You can ofcourse(if you got the time) form your own clan and then it would be fun. Any news yet on how much xboxLive! will cost :?:

I wish coop FPS games were made more often. Glad to hear MS is pushing for coop also, and not just competitive.

Champions of Norath leave a bad taste in your mouth too? ;)

It's been a while since I've played an online coop game. (Not counting FFXI..and Monster Hunter)

I wonder why devs dont implement coop. It seems like a no brainer.

Co-op is the only way I play games with other people. Adversarial modes hold no interest to me. Either I win and feel guilty or I lose and get frustrated.

I'm not sure I like the idea of the hardware maker pushing what kind of modes will be available, but I do like that we're getting them.

I doubt they are forcing it, rather they are offering incentives or possibly a bigger slice of the pie.

I think this is an excellent idea. There are many people who are turned off of online gaming because the competition gets so intense. So many people who play online take the game very seriously and know every little trick in the book. It's intimidating when you join an online game for the first time, and everybody seems to know exactly what they're doing except you. I think a lot of people would love to play through a game cooperatively with a friend rather than trying to kill each other. I think online co-op is going to draw lots of subscribers to Live.

You can't go wrong with co-op; smart of Microsoft to be placing an emphasis on it. Even more than competetive games, games where you are given the option of playing through on the same team as your friends should have an even greater viral effect.

(though they would probably be wise to retain the 'deathmatch' aspects as well)

When games like APB come out this is going to explode.

Imagine GTA with 2 or 3 of your buddies riding along with you, covering your back etc, it would be damn cool.

You've summed up my feelings about online play. Who wants to play some kid who has mastered every little nuance of the game by playing it for endless hours. Not my idea of fun.

COOP on Rainbow 6 was so much fun. Half the time I'd just be goofing off with teamates taking down the NPCS. "OMG did you see how his head flew back when the grenade detonated!?" REALLY REALLY fun stuff.

I don't think so. People don't want to be dependent on other people.
