Mr. Iwata's Revolution puzzle - "educated guesses"

"But, the advances in our technology will also relate to areas that have no direct bearing on gameplay."

"Our competitors have taken time to detail the power of their core processor and their on screen displays. Let me try to ?? the added benefit of our technical approach is the revolution."

"In the next generation the addition of the internet will be important to all consoles, and particularly important to Nintendo."

"The key here is not what you are playing, but how you are be playing. We expect that much like Nintendo's Electroplankton, Revolution will act to create entirely new genres to expand definition of video game."

"The machine is just a tool, the experience comes from the software.
So, let me conclude with one more hint: Those of you who consider the possibilities of combining embedded contents with an internet connection and wireless connection and our flash memory may begin to make educated guesses on what game experience we might be constructing."

Anyone with "educated guesses" here?

My guess: Leaving the big controller question mark out, do they try their hands on massive multi player games with many many self made content? A bit Animal Crossing style. Maybe Nintendo does it the way Microsoft would like to? Many games with "create it your way" scheme?

What would you do with a console connected to the internet, connected to your other wireless portables, an game disc with static content and 512MB flash memory for dynamic content? How would you attract "non-gamers"?

Fully downloadable games. Like a console Steam but a haven for smaller third party houses. More Katamari's, less UE3 clones.

Thats my hope anyhow. :)

I've heard they've spoken of the entire back-catalogue of Nintendo games available for download. And 512Mb of embedded flash storage? Obviously big, persistent things. I hope it's better than Elektroplankton. That 'experience' strikes me as extraordinarily dull/

They are gonna let anyone develop for it I bet. So allow for home brew and professional development with the same console and development tools.

Ha, a while back when Nintendo had a survey as to what people would want next generation, I put that on there!(and I likened it to a modern mario paint)

i wouldn't expect that from nintendo, i think they would prefer to keep the control of the content.

Imagine downloading titles onto your flash card and playing them on your gba evolved (though probably older software and not full revolution quality ones).

Here's an educated guess for you..

How about sitting down and letting Reggie, or Perrin Kaplan.. or at least somebody without broken English do their presentations?

I'll excuse Miyamoto, I enjoyed his appearance at this year's E3.. but he doesn't have drawn-out speeches.

Iwata seemed like a joke up there.

i think it will be a new business model. if those "smaller game" (but big idea) can totally dl from the internet. It may allow some small developers to survive as no manufacting cost involved (the disc and manual, box...). it will cut down the cost a lot (except labour cost)

That's my guess too. They can't just be trading content or online stuff, since MS with Live going to provide that already. They'll go one step further. He talked about ease of development and stuff afterall.

MMO games? ...
Nintendo does seem to be getting buddy buddy with Maxis ...
That Maxis guy is trying to revolutionize games, no premade content ...
Didn't Spore have MMO overtones? ...

A little stream of consciousness for y'all.

a strange idea:
if nintendo focus on internet play so much (and the old games being emulated). how about the user interface is just like animal crossing, people can buy / get old games for emulation. and they can connect to other people (other towns) and it will have lots of different event.
of course, these are just cray imgation.
