Movie Reviews 2.0

Mind you I have never fallen asleep during a movie ever.

Seriously?
Start a movie after 10 PM and I'm likely to miss the ending.

If you've never fallen asleep during a movie you must be an insomniac or have very uncomfortable furniture :)

Movies trigger too much in my brain for me to fall asleep. I am an extremely active watcher, constantly trying to predict where everything is going, studying narrative techniques, story devices, special effects (audio and visual), character development, and in many cases in quite a lot of detail. It doesn't matter if it is a slow movie or a fast one - the slower the movie, the more detail I get myself involved in. ;) As an example relevant to this board and thread alike, I'm looking at how the collapsing building is handled, and I'm thinking about how vast the gap still is between games like Motorstorm and Uncharted and this movie's special effects.

That said, I generally also scout movies before I watch them. If I watch something that I really find bad, I usually still watch long enough to know exactly why I hate it, but then I also stop watching.

Also, I don't have to be an insomniac - I can also just generally get enough sleep during the night? ;)

Touche. I am very bad about this...but with a very taxing job with too much international travel, two kids, one exchange student and a love of games, good TV and movies, how is one to get 8 hours? :)

Seems like that movie is always in discussion in here :)
And by "that" movie, I mean Transformers...
I saw the first, never bothered with the rest!

I can hardly find a new movie that I like...
Must be getting old!!!

The only blockbuster I'd easily watch is anything with "Bourne" in it!

Super 8 impressed me. It was very good.

Yep quite enjoyed that. During it I realised the whole feel of the movie with the group of kids took me back to when I was that age and watched The Goonies.

I watched the new Sherlock Holmes film last night. 5.5/10 from me.

I quite enjoyed the first one, which was mostly enjoyable nonsense, but this was more nonsense than enjoyment. The plot itself actually held together reasonably well and the acting was fine (despite RDJ's comical accent), but it was spoiled by Guy Ritchie's general wankishness as a director. The film would have been greatly improved if his excesses had been reined in and and 20 or so minutes of nonsense was cut!

I watched a crazy movie the other night called The Final Countdown. Made in 1980 starring Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen.

The USS Nimitz supercarrier goes back in time to Pearl Harbor on Dec 6 1941. Uh oh....

Unfortunately they didn't have the budget to allow the Nimitz to pound the Japanese fleet into oblivion, and the ending leaves you with major blueballs.

Sounds like a 1970s ABC "Movie of the Week" :)

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. 9/10. The best action movie i've seen in a while. It's action, action followed by more action. But it's executed really well. Great fun.

Also exciting: guy who leaked x-men origins: wolverine got sent to jail for a year, plus some internet restrictions.

Saw the Hobbit trailer and I can't wait till Dec of 2012 for it. That is just torture. Batman is tough enough that I have to wait till my birthday next year to see it!
