Movie Reviews 2.0

Hell yes, bring on Pacific Rim! I like huge "Cloverfield" type monsters. I like huge ass-kicking mechs. I like Guillermo del Toro.

Og god, just watched "Gatsby" last night. What a horrible mess in terms of camera work and regie. The entire first half of the movie is like a mtv music clip or chopped together adverts, basically no story or relevant details, but switching camera angles every couple seconds to reveal some irrelevant details of the scenery and shove "3D" in your face.
I dont know the novel, but you can guess the criticism of society it contains, only that in the move there is no subtlety just hammering down every obvious detail in long horrible recorded scenes. It likely a good novel and I might read it one day now that i know of it, but thats practically the only positive aspect of the movie... I was really tempted to leave after the first 30 minutes

The latter half picks up, but there isnt anything that you couldnt figure out far in advance.

id give it a 4/10, and thats primary because it gives you glimpses at some good material in the novel

Well for any Evangelion fans, i just watched the last movie, Evangelion 3.33...

What can i say... As the first one was pretty faithful to the original series and the second one started to stray away... The third one is basically a completely different re-telling of the story. It's not even the same story. Sure the same elements carried over, but it's just a different thing.

Not sure if it's better or worse, it's just a totally different take.

Looks amazing, feels great, i just hate the fact that i now have to wait another year or two for the final, which at least they already said is an 'alternative ending' to the story, so i know that it will be something completely unexpected again.

I wonder if it can have the same impact on a supposedly grown man as it had on a much younger version of the same so many years ago

I think it depends on your experiences between the first time you saw it and today. And by experiences i mean certain substances
Cause all i can think of when i see this, is that whoever thought of this must have been on some pretty heavy shit

Silver Linings Playbook is good. Second time seeing it was just as funny as the first.

You have seen a Baz Luhrmann movie before, right? ;)

That's a description of his work to a T.

Can't say I'm interested in watching this movie, however, as I wasn't particularly impressed with the book. If I don't like the book, chances are I won't like the movie!

I got into this movie rather blind (or alteast I wish my senses wouldve left me early).

Well, I can say that I watched a fair bit of movies which I dont like (community, peer pressure, not enough self confidence to call the rest of the room idiot and leave with crazy laughter even if its the only logic thing to do, etc).
But "personal media" leaves a cheap and easy escape, I never finished a game or book when it dint manage to keep me interested.

Everything I know about the book "gatsby" is from the movie... and if it managed presenting the story in a more subtle and grown-up way it could be a good one

I don't have much experience but I'm told that a deep depression is some really heavy shit indeed...

Wow. Only just noticed this trailer. Certainly paints a different picture than the previous ones. From the previous trailers I was "intrigued" by the film (and the angle is appeared to be taking), but this just shot up to a "I'll see this on the Friday night of release week!" :)

Here's a good site for trailers, in case you find it interesting.

They even have a 4K one though the bit-rate isn't that high or the picture that sharp.

Interesting. Looks like more of an 'actioner' rather than a typical Superman movie.

I do worry that it might be overly pompous with Nolan's involvement. Snyder will certainly make it flashy as always!

Regardless, I'm much more interested in the film now that I've seen that trailer.

I can imagine the last thing Warner Bros wants is another Superman Returns. Hopefully they don't swing the pendulum too far in the opposite direction.

What worries me is the military involvement ... they don't generally help out unless they get a huge positive role. This could turn into a Bay'esque military wank movie.

Zod invades with a Kryptonian force, so there's going to be a military response. But I can't imagine the main action scenes not coming down to a handful of Kryptonians fighting against Sup.

I don't care for the cross-marketing for military recruitment though. Especially in light of things like this: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_t..._wikileaks_documents_on_iraq_afghanistan.html Casting a thrashing, dying empire's foot soldiers as the good guys just reeks of a degree of nationalism I can't help but find distasteful.

Looks like a cross between Nolan's Batman and the latest Avengers movie (in more ways than one).

A convincingly adult oriented version of Superman though woud t least be a novelty to me, and I am intrigued, will probably at least like it.

Who could have imagined it for Transformers?

Conventional weaponry can hurt a Decepticon, but would be nothing but a distraction to a Kryptonian. Who knows, though, we'll see. Goyer doesn't always hit it out of the ballpark wtih his scripts and I'm not a big Snyder fan.
