Sorry if old, but here's more information about XBox 360 and Revolution. Apparently MS will make a big show at E3 and Nintendo won't.

That shows the different attitudes:
MS is going after every audience they can possibly get, while Nintendo's hiding anxiously because somebody might steal their innovative concept. If they continue like that their market share is going to shrink even more...

Uh the average gamer don't care about E3, they probably don't even know what it is. E3 is a trade show, you know for people who work in the industry.

unless what they are hiding is revolutionary and will change the gaming world , the less time someone has to steal it the better off they are

Exactly! Where's Nintendo's MTV show???

Reggie Fils-Aime already said, "This year's E3 is not Revolution's coming out party" back in March.

Revolution probably won't launch until late 2006. Xbox 360 is coming out this year, so Nintendo doesn't have to show its hand just yet. I'm sure they want to let Microsoft and Sony show their hand first and then try to trump them later. Besides, this year is all about the new Zelda and DS ;)

Why have a whole tv show when you can't release any details? :?

But, I thought Nintendo was making a big deal about not being late to the next generation race. Maybe someone else can dig up the quote, it was something about not neccessarily launching first but not being far behind the competition either. If PS3 launches in the first half of 2006 I think Revolution will also.

If PS3 launches in the Spring and Revolution launches in the Fall then that still wouldn't be late. Anyway I'm hoping they'll have some good information about:

I've been wondering when Nintendo will make use of the headset jack on the DS too... :devilish:

Imo, E3 is the single most important gaming show in the world (yes, even more than the TGS). No, it's certainly not for the 'average gamer' (hard to quantify what that is anyhow) but enough press will be there that will feed into the hype process which is consumed by the 'average gamer'. Not appearing at this E3 is more likely a sign that they simply aren't ready to show much OR wish to avoid a head on collision with MS and Sony.

V-Pocket? Is that something to do with Tarantula or whatever?

Is there word that they will show what those previous DS ADs meant? The ones with the kid in the woods?

When is the last time something revolutionary purposely missed the E3 so it could be hidden? Consider the development cycle for the next Nintendo console when you give your answer.

Revolution is over a year away. There's no point in debuting hardware at E3 especially when PS3 is still in development and Xenon launching in 2005. There is a phenomenon called premature hype. ;)

Reggie did mention that some things will be shown behind closed doors, I would assume that the goal is to allow companies like EA, THQ, Ubisoft and other major thirdparty publishers a chance to view the the Revolutionary feature. We'll get specs and tech demos.

THe analog stick ? that wasn't shown till a tgs with knights into dreams

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=58675[/url]]Nintendo may leave Sony and Microsoft to squabble amongst themselves over who's got the best next-gen console at this year's E3, according to reports.

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will go on show at the event, but reports from Japan say the Nintendo Revolution will remain under wraps. There'll be a few rolling demos of games currently in development, but no console and no revolutionary controller on display.

So why the decision to stay out of the limelight? Well, it seems that Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata is worried about rivals nicking all his best ideas at this early stage. That's how revolutionary the new console is, apparently... and also the exact same line Nintendo used to avoid showing Mario 128 at a previous E3.

So what exactly can we expect to see on the Nintendo stand? Well, most of the space will be devoted to promoting the new Nintendo Online service. It'll be demonstrated using the DS, and it's thought that the Revolution could have a wireless router capability for hooking up the handheld to the internet. All this will be explained at the publisher's May 17 conference.

Other stuff on show will include the new Zelda game - we're promised that a playable demo will be available. Plus Pokémon XD for GameCube, Emerald for GBA and Diamond and Pearl for DS - the latter two featuring online functionality.
Or are they just waiting so they can steal some ideas from Sony and MS :)

Oh I absolutely agree with the part about premature hype - in fact I stated that they likely didn't have much to show. I was only replying to your part about the average gamer not caring about E3.

The hype and press wouldn't trickle down to the average gamer anyway. The average gamer just sees commercials and print ads then goes out to a department store and buys whatever they like. The average gamer doesn't read gaming mags, gaming shows, or shop at gaming shops.

This isn't new for Nintendo. They're doing Mario Sunshine all over again with Mario 128. Remember how they insist on releasing info because their "rival might steal our ideas." Ironically, no one did. And IMO, even though I think their next console will be something different and unique, I don't think it would be "Revolutionary" (*winking finger*).

No but the shop employees where they buy their games from like EB will be influence by the mags, and they are the people selling that games to the public. It is easy to under estimate the power of E3 but I feel it has a much bigger impact on the hype of a product then you would think.

I gotta admit that Nintendo not showing new hardware at E3 is simply a bad move PR move, and not having a press conference is even worse (unless I'm mistaken and they are).

This won't look like they are protecting themselves from the competition, it will look like they have nothing to offer. Anyway I find it funny how anyone would defend this decision after months of "revoloution will be at E3, revoloution will be at E3" screamed across the net by the Nintendo fan elite. Where teasy in this thread, he's normally ina thread like this. What say u old boy? ;)
