I think it's a matter of who they're targetting IMO. I'd very much be glad about some good games that are in the 5-10h range (which should of course be cheaper). I also like expansive games, but those are the sort that I play when I am on vacation, during a normal work week I have at most 2-3h an evening during which I could play, the weekend is filled with other stuff.
When you're in school / college / university, long games are fine and great (which seems to be the vocal majority here). But when you move on from there (and aren't unemployed), allocating enough time for games becomes surprisingly difficult, so I find myself agreeing with Miyamoto. It don't think he's saying there shouldn't be any long epic journeys, it's just that there ought to be more shorter (albeit high-quality) content, too.
