Microsoft getting ready for legal action..

Fact sheets; technical comparisons; gibberish all. What ever happened to producing the product and letting it win on it's own merits? Leave the comparisons to 3rd parties (and no bribes thank you!) if there are to be any.
Well, it's job of the PR team to put a positive spin on a product and manipulating evidence is an easy way of doing that. Isn't that how PR is carried out in general?

I don't there were any 'good old days' when everybody was honest and everybody tried to foster a spirit of fair competition.

While I think M$ is actually on pretty solid legal ground as well as having a legitimate bitch, does anyone else just find it wildly ironic that M$ is suing someone for FUD?!?!
Not at all. They have several patents covering FUD and obviously Sony has infringed.

Umm, can someone point out the misleading information on that 'fact sheet'. Just had a look, and for the life of me, I can't see it!:?:

I see the article is bitching about the 'requires users to buy', but it's true - although SONY neglected to point out that it's not required for the console to be operational, but then again, that's just plain old PR! Everyone's got a division in their company, and Major Nelson would make a pretty good target should SONY adapt this new cry baby technique and run to the lawsuit office everytime someone misrepresents their product!;)

That comparison slide was FP performance of the CPUs..which is, uh, true. They used MS's own figure. Not that it matters a jot here.

but they says the "two teraflop vs one teraflop", this is absolutley false, they give rsx a "1,8 Teraflop" power

lies.

edit:
from what I remember, at the time, cell have 8 spe available for games, not 6. and rsx was 550 Mhz, so fair doing comparison, when the specs are all false.

My memory might be fuzzy, but as I recall the only time 360 was brought up in this context was in relation to the CPU comparison at the E3 presentation. Sure, they pegged the overall rating at 2 Tflops, but they didn't have a slide comparing that to 360 (and it shouldn't be, as beyond the CPU the likelihood those flop ratings are 'calculated' simlarly is small).

Anyway, like I said, it doesn't matter. Both companies fling dirt, I'd find it amusing if either started taking exception.

There's a difference between "lying" directly to the consumer vs. targeting the competition and making comparisons. VERY different in the legal land actually.

Uhhh, Sony started all this with their 2 x more powerful than 360 slide at E3 2005. Not to mention half the specs they released have changed (and not for the better) which they have yet to correct publically.

well it is more then 2x more powerfullin pure gflops :devilish:

After looking at Sony's "fact" sheet. Are they implying that the PS3 will come with all the connectors they mentioned in the AV out section? It seems kind of unrealistic to mention that the XTS comes with Composite on the Core and Component on the premium, yet only mention the kind of outputs the PS3 has. Especially when we have all been told that the PS3 would only come with Composite. Never mind that most of us already have the Component cables with our PS2 that we can use on the PS3. I think that it just seems to be a stretch, the way they made THAT particular comparison. Other wise I see no real problems with the sheet.

All IMHO of course.

Wow!
I like this trend!
Seems like all this marketing fiasco are making lawyers and advertising agents a lot of money.
