Kojima Says Wait a Few More Weeks For Big Reveal
The next Metal Gear game will be shown soon...whatever it is.

At the Spike TV Video Game Awards this past weekend, we had a brief moment to speak with Hideo Kojima as he walked down the red carpet. Obviously, the big thing on our minds was the next Metal Gear game that he recently teased. Not surprisingly, he didn't reveal anything new at all, but he did say that it's just a matter of weeks until we find out what it is. Given the timing -- a few weeks happens to be around the start of the new year -- this could indicate some sort of exclusivity window has expired on Metal Gear Solid 4, meaning an Xbox 360 version could then be announced (which was one of the common assumptions from the tease, given that its letters were all green). Or, the timing has little significance and it just happens to be when he'll reveal a Metal Gear Game for iPhone or DSi (another common assumption thanks to the "i" in the tease message). Either way, we'll know soon enough.

Kojima also indicated that he is indeed working on the new project he recently referred to while he oversees the next Metal Gear games. Sadly, it's not another Zone of Enders. Here's the video of our brief chat

So it could be as they said , exclusive time frame is done at the start of next year

We will see until the actual screenies come out
Interesting how controls will work. Surely they are thinking of Wii MGS as well given its success?

Looks like a prototype/photoshop screenshot. Though the iPhone does have 3D hardware. Should be at least PSP quality.

Admittedly, I'm mostly interested in the technology side of this game considering the h/w they have access to :)

He said 'more powerful than PS2 and DS combined'. I guess if you consider the PowerVR MBX architecture, the fast ARM11 CPU and the huge RAM it sounds very possible.

According to Carmack the iphone is about twice as powerful as a PS2. It might have been "as powerful" as a PS2, i cba to google

Those screens are photoshops thought.

I don't think the game will be more than a light-gun game, folks. In fact, I heard that the Silent Hill game they announced at the same time already exists for Japanese cell-phones.

I believe it when I see it. So far even the best looking Iphone games look only half as impressive as the weaker PSP launch games ... at best. They also tend to run at truly atrocious frame rates. Considering the development budgets, limited time, rather small teams and the need to release the same games across every cell-phone model on the planet, the comparison isn't exactly fair, though.
On the other hand the technically advanced games like Kroll and Hero of Sparta are iphone only and are criminally short, so the developers didn't really have to spend a lot of time on creating tons of graphical assets.

If you want to have "more powerful than x" boasts, what about the iPhone using the successor to the PowerVR chips used in the Dreamcast?

Given how much contention there used to be between PS2 and DC ...
