Mass Effect movie on XBL market place

Yes it's true. Now scooby, Blakjedi, ANYBODY how does it look?

Heh, about time. Is it gameplay? Also, how about some Bioshock footage and Assasin's Creed. These three games won all kinds of E3 awards and we have barely seen anything of them.

My guess is BlimBlim from Xboxyde.com will have this video up ASAP if this is true.

K, well word on the street is it's the media footage from E3. remember the screenshots in OXM? It's those in motion, and you get to see the dialogue system in action. Aprox. 3-4 minutes.

Acert...pull some strings and get it up on xboxyde will ya??

I let them know, but you know those guys in France -- always sleeping in the middle of the night!

You will probably have to wait until the morning. But the cool thing is Blim added streaming browser videos to Playsyde/Xboxyde so now you do not even need to download the videos. Of course downloading them allows you to get 720p if the video supports it :)

Very Impressive!

The character interaction system follows a logical progression from what was established in KoTOR and is now much more fluid and dynamic with emotions, rather than light or dark, playing an important role in determining how your character is perceived. The majority of the graphical splendor comes from the little details that help flesh out the characters emotions. For example, characters have reflections in their eyes and wrinkles on their faces that change depending on their mood and environment. In one situation, the main character pulled his gun on the bartender to find the information he was looking for. At the very least, it was an impressive display on how threatening an NPC could lead you to the information you need.

Overall, the game looked to be running great and considering the footage was from E3 I have no doubt the kinks will be smoothed out by launch. With that said, some of the environments looked a bit dull and barren, but considering the size and scope of the game (one section displays and entire galactic map showing off how the player can select from tons of star systems and planets to explore) I could probably live with some barren areas.

This is one of those send-the-wife-and-kids-away-for-the-weekend type games, really looking forward to it. I think i remember reading or hearing on some E3 podcast that htis is a 2007 game, anyone else see/hear that?

It looks really good and the dialogue system seems cool. The artifacts on some of the shadows is annoying though, although that may venture into nitpickiness. Likewise you can spot some noticable aliasing (seeing as UE3 does not use MSAA) which is more pronounced than Gears of War, probably because it is slower paced (thus little motion blur) and because Mass Effect seems to have more high contrast areas where Gears seems to be more reserved to less contrasty greys, blues, and blacks.

Anyhow between the previews from the press and Biowares history this would seem to be a game is well on pace to be a great title.

It was late 2006, but pushed back to early 2007 AFAIK.

Cool ! The trailer is impressive. I completed KOTOR, playing the Light side. It's a good game. Will look out for Mass Effect early next year. :)

This bothered me too, if only for the fact that the characters look and animate so well it makes this stick out unfortunately. GoW doesn't seem to have this problem, maybe its something with the engine they can iron out?

Anyway Im really stoked for this, Bioware on next gen hardware has me drooling. Ive heard some people say the art direction is generic sci-fi in this one but I think it looks great. Everything from the character and evironment design gives the impression of polish and consistency (IMO).

And man, Im glad to see the main character can actually speak out loud. Finally! I know some folks prefer their RPG avatars silent, but having every other character acted out while the main hero converses with a dialog tree like a mute Keanu has always annoyed me for some reason. ;)

Dissapointing. The expresion of the faces look great, but everything else is average at best, specially considering the framerate.

Nice character interaction. The character models themselves are very nice. I have a feeling that the shadow artifacts from the head onto the chest etc are due to the proximity i.e. the closeness.. It could just be that they're using lower res shadowmaps with all the different characters. In GoW, there aren't as many unique characters at a given moment.

The framerate is quite inconsistent... Really choppy at around 3:29, but really smooth at 3:32, which shows lots more characters. Weird.

Well, that piqued my interest...

Good looking game -- not the best, but definitely up there -- the faces do look fantastic, but the space suits are getting boring to see so often (although in this game it makes sense). The galaxy map thing was pretty wicked, if you ask me.

Kind of excited for this one... '07 is going to be such a great year for gaming.

Yeah, 2007 is shaping up to be similar to 2004. Just off the top of my head we will be seeing Heavenly Sword (PS3), MGS4 (PS3), Brother in Arms 3 (multi), Medal of Honor (multi), Mass Effect (X360), Bioshock (multi), Assissin's Creed (multi), GTA4 (multi), Crysis (PC), Spore (PC), Halo 3 (X360) and a ton of other stuff I am leaving out. That is a lot of high quality games and those cover a lot of genre with a lot of important franchises (or new ones with a ton of hype) making serious next gen efforts.

I feel this game can be very good and I am very excited to play it. Also art design is perfect.

Really ugly in my opinion. My reaction is the same to the initial batch of shots of the Naughty Dog Jungle game... it just looks off, the art design is horrible, the lighting is completely weird... maybe it has some nice technical stuff going for it, but the end result is not very pleasing.

This is interesting my friend. I have opposite reaction. I think art direction is perfect for space station fantasy world night club. This is how people will look in night clubs because of wierd night club lights. Technically I dont think is "impressive" but is not bad. You can see many polygon edge, frame-rate is not so great, shadow is missing too much and planet environment shot has not so great surface and physics, also animation is good and bad. Probably is motion captured but face animation has maybe not so much bones, I dont know, but mouth movement is not so great. But they are still making this game I think so maybe they will change this. I think pixel shader use is amazing for cut scene characters.

From the guy making the game:

http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=488472&forum=104&sp=30

*sigh* Finally.

Ok lets clarify a few things:

1) Yes this was the "something" that you/we have been waiting for/hinting at. This is a video taken of the E3 demonstration. The descriptive voice over is Project Director Casey Hudson. The person "driving" the game was Lead QAer Scott Langevin. Everythign you see is ingame gameplay footage. Not cutscenes. Not prerender. Just actual gameplay.

4) IMO, this is actually better than the Jade Demo (which I worked on). The Jade demo was ingame combat and dialog, but was a made up area with prestaged combat. What you see in the ME demo is actual gameplay as it stood.

6) Ghost-Hack said: "anyone else notice that the conversations were... like mental suggestions?". This is one of my favorite things in Mass Effect. In so many RPGs you can just read the words accompanying the dialog at the bottom of the screen and when you're done, skip on to the next line without needing to listen to the VO. In ME, the text on the screen is only indicitive of the type of dialog you'll get. So if you choose and option like "Threaten dirtbag" you may actually say something like "Listen scum, you do as I say or I'll break all 6 of your kneecaps" or whatever (proof I am not a writer). You will need to listen to what the game says in order to understand what is going on.

7) Keep in mind the VO for the demo is not necessarily the final VO for the game. It may be, it may not. That you'll have to buy the game and find out.

8 ) Some have mentioned "a little rough" or "needs polish". Keep in mind this was a demo made back in April. Still a whole lot of time and effort still being placed in Mass Effect. The game already looks better than it did in teh E3 demo and it's still in the works. When it comes out, it's going to be absolutely stellar.
