Lost planet screens

Probably it's a Gears-of-War-Setting-the-Bar-Too-High effect.

Or rather, a similar game at a similar time can't score too close to Gears. Same reason Gears couldn't possibly get anything less than great scores. The press has to obey the demands of the hype machine they create.

Hey, call me crazy. Look at it this way:
If MS had chosen LP as the 360 poster child instead of Gears, these game would be in exact opposite positions today. Critically and commercially. I'm not trying to convince anyone, but know that you can't convince me otherwise.

Exactly, same reason Resistance scored so well for example, imo. It had too to satisfy the press PS3 hype machine, as the only standard bearer for Sony's new platform.

7/10

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition feels like it had the potential to be a pared-down shooter classic, but never quite manages to make the core combat exciting, varied or challenging enough to elevate it to the lofty realms that early showings suggested it would reach. Nevertheless, with a glorious setting, some memorable boss encounters and some staggering visuals to enjoy, Lost Planet has enough going for it to recommend checking out for those of you needing a lift in the dismal January wasteland.

You can change the camera from the odd "accelerated" setting to standard (which gives you normal 3rd person controls without the dead-zone in the middle).

Exactly the same position? Citing hype as an influence is fine, but citing it as the only influence is a bit of a stretch IMO. The community scores for as GoW match up with the review scores.

LOL, that seems pretty ridiculous to me. Here's a more simple explanation: GOW is a better game.

Gears doesn't have crappy AI, it doesn't having boring plodding missions, it has nicer GFX, and is quite innovative in that it has created the definitive implementation for a cover-style 3rd person shooter.

I dunno...just a thought!

Argh, according to ebgames.com my collector's edition + toy vs doesn't ship until tomorrow.
Gears doesn't have crappy AI
The enemy had decent AI for a shooter, I at first thought it was odd how they just charge at you sometimes but understand that they charge at times because that's part of their character(and it gives you opportunity to use the chainsaw!). But the teammate AI I thought was retarded. But as always I wish the AI overall were far better but I know that's realistically a ways off.

Oh, one thing I thought was retarded about the enemy AI is sometimes when they were in cover and I could still get in shots at them it's like that didn't register in their AI and I could kill some of them off like that. It's like freaking move!

That's just the thing, I don't think Gears is a Better game!! Gears is seriously top-shelf stuff, but Lost Planet is right there with it. I think that had LP gotten the blessing, it would be on the covers of all the magazines and be the hot topic. And Gears would, like LP is now, be recognized as very high quality but kind of live int he shadow of LP. This sort of things happens alot, imo.

Again, call me crazy.

Well I've just finished the first two levels and I'm having tonnes of fun. It's fairly straight-forward shooter action, but there's nothing wrong with that.

Aargh there's too many good games out right now

I bought the LE version yesterday here in Sweden.

I'm at mission 3 in SP and I find the game really good.

One bad thing for me is that the sound effects of the big weapons are a bit muffled or toned down so that drags down the satisfaction of firing with the those guns a little, however this might be fixed by lowering the music volume and raising SFX volume a bit (I shall test today after work.)

The MP has enormous potential, however there weren't many servers online yesterday so I had to play on a French server with some lag and I don't speak French so... ;)

So far I'll give it 8.5 out of 10.
GoW is 9/10 for me.

Looks like not only did my LE ship, but so did the mech, and I'll have them today. I'll edit this post with impressions (unless a significant number of other posts come out between now and when I'm ready to do so).

Lost Planet sells 1 million copies in no time?

"Friday 12 January 2007 - even though Lost Planet is out in stores across Europe from today onwards, its doing extremely well. Fisco has stated that the game, made by Capcom, has sold over 1.040.000 copies in the US and Europe together, and has therefore reached the one million limit in no-time.
Before the launch of the game, Capcom made a prognosis, hoping to sell the game at least 740.000 times. They have therefore reached and passed this amount by far on the european launch day. We ourselves were also very enthousiastic about Lost Planet, you can check our review here."

Good news! Glad to see the reviews(honestly, what happened, reviewers trying to prove they aren't swayed by hype?) haven't impacted what is a great game.

So the game already got 1m confirmed sold through the pre-orders?

I'm reading some of the reviews, and its really annoying that Lost Planet scores "meh" on the graphics department, simply because it doesnt have the "bulky look" that Gears has :???:

I've seen the videos and screenshots, and the game has some really nice visuals and art direction, so its sad theyre not getting more credit than its worth.

I agree with the graphics comment. I guess what it comes down to largely is that this game feels attractive to the casual eye. My girlfriend saw me playing and said, "this game looks really good!" This coming from the girl who hates me having GoW on in the same room as her because it's "ugly".

It's well-executed, with a nice art style. A little on the easy side so far, but I believe there are some bastard achievements to try and get for the GS junkies.
