KILLZONE Shadow Fall [PS4]

Other than visuals, already expected the SP to disappoint after seeing all the gameplay footage. ^_^
Interesting that they made the game difficult, probably for the initial rush of core gamers.

Hope to jump into MP with the early adopters, and see how it goes.

The reviews are too varied; Gamespot thinks its too easy when others say its hard :???: ! Its down to playing for urself. Anyways, if the same websites are giving next gen COD a higher rating than this, then its just plain down to it being an exclusive launch game and being judged with that pressure. I still can't get myself to finish the ghosts campaign even though Davros says its good.

Everyone is praising the MP unanimously, though.

Its the launch game problem, like people rated down RFOM, even though its still one of the most fun SPs around, because they thought its not worth spending $600 for. To me, it was totally worth it. In fact I was taken aback when I watched the reviews a year after having played the game to death ;) ! I was expecting heaps of praise only to be told not to get it :p !

BTW< The Polygon PS4 review ends with "Its a gaming console with no games to recommend" WTH, so BF4 and AC4 getting stellar reviews doesn't count? They run on that machine, its not as if there's nothing on it. When the fact is that these games run better on the PS4 than on any other console

Well you can get those games almost from every platform , i wouldn't hurry to get a console to play them ... but an amazing exclusive is something else - and judging from early reviews , Shadow Fall isn't ...
Seems that Guerilla Games will always be related with second tier.

GG have made some solid titles. Whether you think so or not is another matter.

The tech is there, it just seems like they didn't have the time to flesh out the SP. Reading the reviews, you could sense the direction they wanted to go with more open worlds etc., but they probably just had less time than they would have liked. It remains to be seen how the MP is which could be a hit on its own.

I am sure there are millions waiting to play BF4 on the next gen platforms. Yes, they would hurry to buy a console for it. Sayingthat this console has no games to recommend when there are games which they themselves have rated highly is a weird way to end a review. This isn't ps360 launch, when therewere literally no games to choose from.

As on this date, there is no other console to enjoy bf4 64 players matches on. Should u get a ps4 for bf4 : hell yes ! It runs best on it.

At least the PS4 shouldn't crash like hell unlike the PC counterpart.

You know people can abuse the fact that there are certain events that guarantee crashing people's computers and therefore have the potential to turn the tide of the game.

I have a friend that confirms that there are certain weapons that crash the user (which is useless) but bringing down the Siege of Shanghai building will cause a lot of people's computer to crash at random and at that point it's often useful to try and use it to win back a losing game.

Doubt you can do that on PS4.

(and yes I've done it and succeeded in doing exactly that. Turned a 150 ticket deficit and being pushed to home camp into a victory)

It's still strange to ignore the best looking games on any console. It seems jaded.

Polygon seem to have a very partisan, and not in its favour, approach to the PS4. As they are more or less standing on their own with this I wouldn't place any value in anything they say.

If they take the same negative approach to other console launches then you could just put it down to gamer fatigue, but if not... Well true colours and all that.

Or maybe they just didn't like the bloody games. They certainly liked the console.
Either way, it's about damn time critics started to break free from this baffling hive mentality. There has to be someone (besides Tom Chick) who isn't completely in love with every new thing just because it is shiny.

It's more than liking one game though. Last generation we had, practically, no games at launch at all. Yet here we are with 30+ at launch and, on the basis of one review, they state there are 'no compelling games' at launch.

They either have a very bad case of gamer fatigue or a very unbalanced view of gamers interests.

It's a subjective view, like all other reviews. FWIW I also think there is nothing on PS4 that is compelling enough for me to get one at launch.

I'm not interested in their view on gamers interests. Same way I don't expect a movie critic to praise a Transformers movie because millions of people think they're the shit. I want their honest opinions, and if gaming fatigue factors into these opinions then that's something the gaming industry has to address by making new and exciting stuff and not just prettier versions of the same old shit. Games criticism is gradually evolving past the point of being simple, pseudo-objective and mostly checklist-driven buyers guides. I think that's a good thing.

That wasn't the point, the point was that they said:

"Its a gaming console with no games to recommend"

Which i actually can't seem to find on their site, so either they changed that wording or RenegadeRocks is wrong.

But if they ended their original writing with that, then they are showing high level of bias or amateurism.
Why would i buy AC4/BF4/COD for anything but a high powered PC if i had a PS4?

I have to admit that there is no upcoming games on any new console that would make me purchase the console for that sole purpose.

But I do enjoy the Killzone series, and shmups like Resogun so I'm getting PS4 on day one simply to dip in asap. The same goes for Xbox only this time for Halo, once that is out then I'll think about getting one.

But in terms of the polygon review. They don't state it as a subjective opinion. They state it as an objective fact. 'There are no compelling games...' Not that it will actually matter in the long run. But it's just annoying that sites can still cling to such ancient methodologies and still expect people to value their opinions.

Sorry but I don't agree. They don't need to state it's a subjective view. It is and that's the end of it. No reviews i can think of state "This is a subjective view...", but everyone knows that it is. If they don't, then that's their problem.
It's like asking JK Rowling to write "This is a fantasy, not reality!!!!1111" at the beginning of every Harry Potter book.
