Killzone: first pics

Some of you folks need to quit yer bitching and give credit where credit is due.

If those screens are an accurate representation of the game, then it's easily one of the most impressive titles yet for PS2. Is the texturing up to Xbox standards? Do we detect any bump mapping? No, but this is PS2 we're talking about - and, jaggies aside, these are the kind of visuals Sony promised us when it first announced PS2.

For hardware designed in 1998, this looks great. PS2 may be an old beast, but it's still a beast, and I for one look forward to seeing more pics and learning how well the game plays.

I just want to say one thing . You people post pictures of a game. 2 of the 4 pictures have heavy fogging . Most people don't think it looks good. This is not far out in the distance it is very close to the actual char. People point this out . Sony fans come in and say omg this is the greatest game ever . The fog ehances the feel of a jungle . Other people go no ... it looks bad. Sony fans omg your a troll. Everyone needs to stop this . The pictures were posted. Some of them look bad. If you want to prove people wrong that the game looks better than this post more pictures or just shut up when the game is picked a part. This is clearly not one of the most impressive ps2 games based on these pictures . So once again if u want to make that claim post better pics . Cause these pics can't back up these claims some are making. Also if you can't link to it , it isn't proof . I can easily say behind close doors nintendo showed a 4 tflop system due out early 2005. And just keep saying it was behind closed doors no link. Also please stop sending me pms saying a person is trolling when they are disagreeing with you. It doesn't reflect well on you. I woke up to 5 pms :( . Also at least link to where the person is saying this stuff. Makes it a bit easier than picking random quotes out of large threads .

I am tired of reading these bickerings and I don't want to rub it again, but seeing your (jvd) message, I think I should write my observation on the thread.

I think that someone saying "borrowing from HL2" caused the major bickering and made a lot of noise than the ones that you have mentioned/joined.

If "borrowing from HL2" caused the bickering then so be it, but for christ sake don't tell me that a person can't have an opinion because it might cause bickering

Opinions exist and if it doesn't agree with yours, tough sh*t so GET OVER IT!!! ;)

What's the matter did i hurt your sensitive feelings?

Can't stand an observation from a third party ? I simply point out my observation on the cause of the major bickering.

Or I have hurt your feelings by saying my observation ?

If so, sorry. ;)

Nah my feelings aren't hurt

You're just dragging this on for no apparent reason that's all. What do you hope to accomplish by giving your 2 cents anyway? That somehow by pointing fingers someone would get banned?

Sorry to burst your bubble but it ain't gonna happen anytime soon ;)

The bickering started because some people can't accept differences of opinion and in the process started acting like rabid fanbois. That isn't gonna change because rabid fanboi activity will always exist in the Matrix ;)

BTW let me know when you feel like talking about KZ instead of adding to the bickering...oh the irony

If you want this thread locked keep on adding non KZ related posts.

I have never said anything about banning someone or what, or you think everyone want you to get banned ? :)

And BTW, there is no bubble for you to burst as I don't have that banning someone bubble over my head. I have never send any PM to a moderator.

I have nothing to add to KZ or else I would have posted them than posting a response in addition to jvd's opinion on the bickerings. You drag it on because you can't stand my observation.

I rest my comment.

On topic (I hope):

Has this game a profile high enough to ensure it will be passed through the PA for a nice bottlenecks check?

How common is PA's use nowadays? Has Faf's game gone through it?

Sorry if I'm making stupid questions.

JVD:
As to the goddamn fog:

The only issue I have regarding your (and other people's) comments about the fog is that you jump to conclusions regarding it. So we have two outdoors pics with fog in them. Yes, so what?

Does this mean all outdoor environments have a heavy curtain of fog in them? No, not neccessarily! It might be that way, but we certainly can't judge that from the two pics we've been shown so far! Wait til more screenies are available, then draw your conclusions, don't use an extremely limited sample set to bash a game that isn't going to be finished for 6+ more months.

Not too much to ask for is it? No need to call me a sony fanboi or anything just because I call for some common sense to be applied, EVEN when it comes to a PS2 game. ;)

I am not sure, if Guerrilla had 24/7 access in the past, but they are in contact with the right people at SCEE. Since 3-6 month ago, the new TOOL is available, named T15K or T15000. It's a TOOL including the PA (performance analyser). T15K should be available to any developer by now. T15K will replace it's predecessor.

Frankly, from what I've seen in this thread, most people actually think it looks good, some only pointed fog as a possible problem.

Seriously, though how can one say this does not look good? I can't think of a single PS2 game other than MGS3 that looks as good as this and doesnt' have a 'room' structure (MGS3 streams it's whole environment without any loading pauses, and so does KZ I think)

Ok guys I surrender!!!!!
Unbelievable! :p

I hope you won't start anything like this again, anytime soon :)

I think the game looks pretty nice. However, I have to say that I´m quite dissapointed in it. Afterall, after hearing so much about NURBs/Voxels/etc., I wasn´t expecting somewhat underwhelming textures and boxy characters.

BTW, as long as it´s an atmosphere resource, I´m ok with the fog. Who knows? Maybe it´s there to enhance the atmosphere. And I like the diffused lightning. :)

Is it correct that former appeal members, now employed @ Guerilla, used some technologies of Outcast 2's Himalaya engine to make Kill Zone? :/
I can see resemblances between KZ & Outcast 2 (technologies, not masks&suits ;))
Or am I wrong?
(maybe it's the rock textures...)

I myself am kinda sick of the technically advanced but artistically void games out there, especially in this genre. Definately looking forward to this one, no matter who, if anyone, influenced it. :?

Just saw MGS3:SE movie....didn't Snake (or Big Boss) wear the same sort of clothing/mask etc when he skydives and lands in the jungle.

Yes, simiallar. It's an oxygen mask that is used with HALO jumps (parachute jumps made from very high altitudes, where body falls freely untill the last safe moment, and then the parachute opens - to minimize the time spent in the fall and the possibility of being seen by enemy troops)
