Rare's pointy-eared shape-shifting heroine is jumping from Xbox 360 to animated feature film; Sunmin Park to direct.
The latest female in the gaming world may not have even defeated a single enemy on an Xbox 360 yet, but she's already destined to be a motion picture star. Microsoft and Santa Monica, California-based Maxmedia signed a deal to bring the world of Kameo: Elements of Power to the big screen.

Sunmin Park will direct the animated feature, which begins production in 2006. Park previously directed the 2004 Sundance Film Festival participant Sky Blue, and was a producer of Alejandro Amenabar's The Others.

In the game, a young female elf named Kameo takes on an evil Troll king, a daunting task for one person. Thankfully, Kameo has the power to summon 10 powerful beastly warriors, such as a lava-shooting termite and a fire-breathing dragon.

For more information on Kameo: Elements of Power, take a look at GameSpot's recent hands-on with the game.

Hopefully turns out well. I would have prefered a PDZ movie though ;)

Will probably be canned. I can't see this appealing to any audience.

of course it will appeal to an audience....

Toy story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Ice Age, lilo and stitch..... and the list goes on - all did really well.

there's no reason why a CGI film of kameo wouldn't do well as long as the script is humerous and interesting.

And tbh it's the complete opposite of the halo movie imo.... it's likely that halo the game will help sell halo the movie. Kameo the movie is more likely to help sell kameo the game.

Seen the pattern with those movies? Most are made by Pixar.
Pixar are just GOOD. If Pixar made this movie, i can see it doing well, but i don't think they do licenses. And i don't think they should, i would want them to stick to original characters and plots.

while I really like Pixar movies, I don't think they are the only ones who can make good animated movies.

Then again, most animated movies suck and the Pixar ones really do stand out. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it doesn't take Pixar to make a good animated movie, but on the other hand it's quite possible that a Kameo movie could suck regardless who is making it

find!!!

i would love to see that...

hope everything will pan out.

speaking of rare...

i would also love to see a movie adaptation of conker's :)

Although I do believe that an animated Kameo movie has all the chances of becoming a hit I would feel more confident of Pixar was the one that was making. Not so much because of technical aspects, anyone can set up a render farm, but because of humour and story...

I don't think Pixar could make it good (that grammar sounds awful  ), because the reason Pixar's movies are good is that they choose story's and characters they can make the most of. Every Pixar product is their IP from start to finish, with that Pixar flair. To take someone else's IP and characters, follow their story, and make it good... Well anyone can make amazing graphics these days and Pixar aren't needed for that. They make the rest of the movie and a franchise tie-in would really limit Pixar to I imagine keeping out most of their 'Pixarness' such as humour.

That is true as well. I ownder how much Rare has to say when it comes to this movie. I don't think they would have any problems with humour and art and so on...

yeah i'm aware of that ;)

i just used them as examples that animated movies certainly do have an audience... as long as they are made right. to sign it's death warrent before even knowing any details is a touch premature.

I tend to declare a movie's death as soon as i realise it's based on a videogame. Though it has happened that one or two were resuscitated.

Movies based on video games are notoriously bad. Video games based on movies are even worse.

There have been very few exceptions to this general rule.

Why are they making a movie before the game is even out? What if the game flops?

Has that even mattered? ;) Besides, the movie will come out long after the game has been released so they're fine.

This happens all the time, someone always secures the rights to make a movie based on a game.
Halo is a bit different in that Microsoft actually took some interest in the movie, but even Metroid and Perfect Dark have had their licenses auctioned off before, it's not a big deal and nothing usually comes of it.
