Johnny Depp is a moron (if you didn't already know that)

" I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out..."

average citizens $1000s in debt.... 2/3 of the pop. is overweight/obese... high divorce rate... high unemployment rate... growing deficit... president harms animals in public... destruction of natural reserves is bundled with really necessary measures... monopolies go unscathed... sch22l system twinkd...

spent much time attempting to open federally protected land in order to drill for oil,

still spends much time attempting to do that...

Not sure on the grounds as to what kept Chaplin away from US shores so long... Think it was just his personal choice. Artists can be sensitive people... hard to live down his fame for Mccarthy's brutish tactics...

I certainly dont agree with Ahnold on his politics (Ill take no money from 'special interest' but Ill take money from corporations??? Thanks for defining special interest for us Arny! No wonder his numbers are dropping like a rock...) but it doesnt keep me from buying quite a few of his flicks...

If having a contrary opinion means boycott I find that a form of censorship. Depps opinion is def not disparaging the whole country its pretty obvious. However he does want the country to clean up its politics before he feels he can come back and live there and he chides it. Nothing wrinong with that he has a soapbox and used it good for him... I dont see that as offensive. If I could afford it Id move to France too. Who cares about taxes when you have millions? He does live in France btw not Monaco. The quality of Life in France is bar none. Ive been there its a great and friendly country especially loved the time in the south...

Taking this silly little interview a bit too serious there guys...

3 pages... all on a misinterpretation of the point depp was making ?

quite interesting really :)

depp criticised the RUNNING of the united states... the bureaucrats.... NOT the nation itself... he himself is american...

I personally think the current administration has made some truly bone-headed decisions... and many politicians in this nation are complete retards with no inkling of how to run things.. but rather good @ getting people to vote for them... (case in point.. jeb bush)

does this make me un-american ? thats open to interpretation I spose... some will say so... but I rather enjoy the 1st ammendment :)

I spose it applies to americans... even in france...

If he was only criticising the administration, then instead of mentioning exactly who he was criticizing, why the bit about taking his kids to the US? I mean, come on.

And the Freedom Fries bit is bogus as well. No one in the administration ordered that, it was one guy in the food cafeterias that serve the House of Representatives who decided to do it, and it was later picked up by two Representatives in a press conference capitalizing on it. Had nothing to do with the executive branch.

And frankly, is this any different than some of the rhetoric we have been getting from politicians in other countries? Where's Depp's wrath for the French politician who compared Bush to HITLER. Or the Canadian politician who called him a moron? Is this correct behavior for "grown up" public officials?

Anyway, I'll take California over France anyday. Better weather, better wine :), better opportunities, and best of all: Johnny "21 idiot street" Depp doesn't live in California.

And we'll have the terminator for our governor soon.

(BTW, besides the flip over "take no special interests money", what exactly about Ahnold's policies do you disagree with, let alone know about. Frankly, if you know what his policies are going to be, let me know, because most Californians have no idea yet.)

Atleast he isn't outright lying like Bustamante who recently claimed illegal immigrants pay $1400 more in taxes than they consume services (outright false), and who is selling out to illegal immigrants in CA, like supporting a plan to allow ILLEGAL immigrants to get driver's licenses. (why would they need them, since by definition, they aren't supposed to be here, and would any of them even RISK putting their name/address into the DMV database so the INS can pick them up?)

Bustamante is also a racist and former member of MECHA, a hispanic version of the KKK.

Its a silly short interview full of weird shit like Depp is known for... angry puppies cmon...

The freedom fries bit was a resolution in chamber ordering the name change and that had to be brought by elected representatives. That the 'chef' in the cafeteria thought it up makes no diff on that.

But thats old news... The interesting news is the US going back to the UN because it needs financial and military aid from other countries in Iraq. That kinda surprises me. Even I didnt think the US needed help on either of those spheres...

Ahnold admitted to taking corporate funding for his campaign (after he said no 'special interest $ as Im rich enough' on Leno...) not to mention he invested his own money in the recall. Hes aleady screwing up...

Certainly the frenchman or even the canadian politician who said those things deserved the rebukes they got... but they arent serving in the center of power today... this kind of argumentation will always be weak... The US is , again, THE power center of the world. Not France or Canada. Its not normal to expect equal treatment for all politicians of which there are untold thousands who make bad comments on the US at any given time. I mean cmon you know that one too dem...

Ya Id say Cal is a great liberal place to live in too ;) tho Ive never visited... Do have 2 engineer cousins down there tho and they love it...

Are you switching sides on the immigration issue?

No, I am pro immigrant. Just not pro illegal immigrant. I don't care if 20 million mexicans want to come here, just give them visas so atleast we have a record of who is here.

After 9/11, I view our "open" society like a computer system without a firewall. If we're going to leave all these ports open, atleast let's have some system administration logs of what's happening so we can backtrack later if someone "cracks" our system.

That means, I don't care about immigration, as long as it is documented. I want immigrants to pay taxes too, just like everyone else who lives and works here.

All problems appearing in western nations. Even Chinese are becoming obese now due to "little emperor" syndrome. Scientists are predicting that well over 50% of Europe will be obese by 2030 given current trends of those now in their 20s and younger.

US is below Belgium, Sweden, UK, Finland in divorse. It's only slightly higher than France. It's 12th place in divorces.

Deficits are growing everywhere due to global slowdown. They will grow faster in the EU due to the demographics (older) population.

EU consumer debt is in fact growing, the UK is now up to $5300 per person, US stands at something like $8500 per person, but Eurozone consumers are catching up quicker because US consumers are stretched to their limit and EU consumers aren't yet.

Unemployment in the Eurozone has historically been much higher. You can argue about measurement if you want, but even if you lump in what the BLS calls "non-voluntary part time worker" (less than 35 hours per week, and wants a full time position), the unemployment rate only goes to 8% still lower or equivalent to other countries.

In other words, there aren't alot of huge differences between what's happening in the US, Europe, and what will happen in Japan, and later China.

I think it's perfectly predictable. U.S. bodies and increasing amounts of money that the occupation is apparently going to cost hurt the administration's chances for reelection. They therefore "appeal" to the world community to bail them out, basically by providing the same sort of "multilateral" force that they wanted in the beginning: namely lots of foreign troops under U.S. command. Under such a situation, the Bush administration would not have to respond to problems there because it would not be U.S. troops that would be dying, and Iraqi "liberation" could still be defined in terms of how many Iraqi businesses and resources are turned over to American corporations.

Except under the UN multilateral force, it will be defined as what share of the oil contracts French and German companies get.

I pretty much agree with Depp, except for the opportunity to make money, I wouldn't want to have much to do with the place. Too much indoctrination. I wouldn't want to end up thinking like a stereotypical American, which is not the vast magority mind you, just the loud insane variety you hear from all the time, they come off like cult members. Oh, if you are one of the loud insane Americans I was referring to, I was referring to the next guy, ok?

I bet you're wearing at least one item made in China and Singapore now. You probably have several items manufactured in China and Singapore in your computer as you read this.

Don't try to delude yourself.

"he would not live there until the political climate changed."
"Depp slammed George W. Bush's administration"

I thought it was clear enough...

From what I recall you're wrong here : it was a German minister who said that Bush was using one of Hitler's method to divert the attention of a problem. It wasn't a comparison of persons and I think it makes a big difference.

Have you been to France ? Just asking because personaly I can't say what I prefer since I don't know California except from what I've seen on movies. I hope to visit California one day ;) for the weather you must be right even if it's not too bad here, but for the wine you must be joking :p

Actually Zeross I recently read an article which stated that wine from Napa Valley in California is now, in terms of quality, beginning to outstrip French wine, if it hasn't already.

Frankly I don't care where the wine comes from. Just give me a good Merlot. I had one at the birthday party we threw for my bf on sunday. Just smelling the wine made my face melt away. The taste was simply orgasmic. Ahhh merlot.........

Unfortunately, my bf is a white wine drinker. *shudder*

/me drools for a good red wine

What I thought was disappointing in his talk about bringing his children here was that he wanted to show them the US, and assumed that they would form the same opinion that agrees. Well, of course they will--they're his children. They'll agree with him that the moon is made of cheese. At least until they're 13 or so.

Really  ? Didn't know that, but you know even if it's true I'm forced to disagree because I'm french and wine is our national pride ;)

But to be honest I don't really like wine which is problematic because not only I'm french but moreover I live in the region of Bordeaux ! So I'm an heretic here
