Japanese Mag: Wii vs PS3

Which y-axis ? You mean the Amazon JP chart ? It says "Number of registration".

The numbers may not add up to 100% because multiple selections are possible for the notification (i.e., one can register for all 3 models).

 You have good eyes, I tried for a few minutes, but I couldn't make anything of it. I am a blind bat.

In that case it still doesn't make sense that they are breaking each sku into a percentage and not having all the percentages add up. In other words even if 10 people wanted all three and another 10 people wanted just the ps3 60gb, that would be a total of 20 people but to the poll it would be 40 people/selections with:
20(50%) going to the 60gb model
10(25%) going to the 20gb model
10(25%) going to the Wii

All of which obviously add up to 100%.

Regardless I look forward to seeing what kind of support Nintendo is drumming up from Japanese developers at TGS.

Ah... I was answering to your question why they don't add up to 100%.

If they want to present the relative shares of the registration totals (in percentage or absolute number), it is most likely using the method you described. Then your question is invalid; naturally they must add up to 100%.

*If* they don't add up to 100%, then another interpretation could be: PS3 60 Gb (100%), Wii and PS3 20 Gb (50% each) using your example.

No, to my knowledge the DS had way more preorders as well, but the numbers may be skewed because of the known shipment totals affecting how many COULD be preordered.

I guess they exceeded the DS' numbers as well as the PSP's, but to my knowledge it was 2 million+ for the DS. Many stores didn't seem to accept pre-orders for the PSP, and rather wanted to attract huge lines that day. ;)

Thanks.
