Japan Sales Thread *renamed

Pre golden week effect I think. Almost all consoles went up. We should have same results thursday for golden week sales.

Looks like Japanese dev are feeling the heat in the slow PS3 sales. Namco Bandai has a lot more games planned for release this fiscal year for the Wii than PS3 or x360.

It's a vicious circle. You can delay games for the PS3 until it has a larger install base... to increase chances for profit / recoup cost. But if you delay games for it, the install base grows slower.

Because of sluggish sales, Namco Bandai plans to release only 23 titles for PS3 in the current fiscal year, compared to 24 games to be sold to Microsoft Corp's Xbox360 and 37 titles to be released for Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii console.

IMHO 23 already sounds like alot, wonder how much of those games someone is actually willing to spend money on. But isnt 99% of the games bandai make anime related? Not that I would mind if they were good games but unfortunatly that almost never is the case.

As usual from Cheesemeister on GAF.

Holy crap! Top 21 are all Nintendo.

Looking at the Wiisports number, I'm guessing Wii hardware will be over 140k this week. Because the usual Wiisports attach rate is around .6.

This race in Japan is over.

It looks like we really will have a psuedo repeat of the SNES v Genesis days with one console dominating one region and the other grabbing the other region. With the addition of another console and another region dominated by that console.

PS3 = EU
XB360 = US
WII = JP

Of course that doesn't mean the other consoles aren't selling "well" in other regions, just that they have specific regions in which they dominate. Like SNES v Genesis. :cool:

One thing that sucked though was being on the Genesis side of that era, I got screwed with the lack of key JP support. SF2 was an after thought* and FF series was nowhere to be found. Not to mention the plethora of other games which never saw the light of day on Genesis. There were of course reverse cases but for the most part, I was at a friends house playing SNES (MarioKart all night sessions FTW)

(*not only after SNES had SF2, but after they had SF2-Turbo ... then Gensis got SF2 CE which was the prior version and looked horrible in comparison)

This gen I expect similar but not to the same extent. I think the smaller more quirky JP games will originate and remain on Wii. The medium/bigger titles will either be ported up to PS3 (or down to Wii with Simultaneous release) or to xb360 depending on focus region.

At this rate:

-JP
Wii = 6.4m /yr - (100k/wk)
PS3 = 768k /yr - (12k/wk)
xb360 = 256k /yr - (4k/wk)

-US
Wii = 6.4m/yr - (400k/mo)
xb360 = 4.0m/yr - (250k/mo)
ps3 = 2.1m/yr - (130k/mo)

-EU
PS3 = ? 1st?
Wii = ? 2nd?
xb360 = ? 3rd?

Erm.. Going from current sales trends in the west Wii will soon beat 360 too in sales.

YUnless some drastic downturn in Wii demand occurs in EU/NA it won't take more than say six months at most for Nintendo to catch up with MS.

Not that it really interests me.. I just want good games to play so I'd prefer if each of the major consoles had a third of the market each. :cool:
Peace.

At this stage it looks like people will have to buy 2 consoles at most to fully enjoy this generation.

PS3 or 360 for the hi-def games.
Wii for the wiimote games.

That's probably how I'm going to go. With most of the exclusives becoming cross platform for PS3/360, and PS3 sales bombing badly due to price, the 360 is probably going to be my purchase by this time next year when they get a premium package under $300. I just don't see a justification for a PS3 at this time without the exclusives the PS2 enjoyed.

Wii I'll get whenever I can find one. :LOL:

As an aside actually, since the Wii sold over 100k systems in Japan last week, maybe Nintendo's increased supplies are finally kicking in. The most Wii's we've seen sold in a single week in Japan have typically been in the 70-80k range.
