Intel ARC GPUs, Xe Architecture for dGPUs [2018-2022]

They want to launch Mobile in Q1, Desktop in Q2 and Workstation in Q3. So, yes to a shorter timeframe, but all four Qs are touched.

Never heard of this guy before but caught a video of his the other day where he claimed to have seen the DG2 and have actual performance data on it, and it is not good:

What he says though is dovetailing perfectly with what I'm hearing from other sources. I never expected their first effort to be a great card, but it sounds really bad. :(

It will really depends on pricing.
A mid and entry level card at a reasonable price won't be bad at all.
Price to performance is really bad in the gpu market at the moment, hence the entry/mid cards aren't really available.

Intel? I've only seen rumormongers saying and press speculating it's 3070 level
Could be fake but this slide from some months ago is showing up to 3070 level of performance:

Intel announced that they will totally produce 4 million Alchemist GPUs in 2022 (OEM laptops + AIBs). Even with a conservative 50/50 split (which I believe will be more like 70 laptop / 30 AIB, but let's assume 50/50 for easy calculation), it's only 2 millions cards in the DIY market. Last year, according to JPA, AIBs sold 40 millions cards. Thus 2 millions units is 5% market share. Nothing to see here folk, it's nearly rounding error...

Well that's more deep conversion but I don't feel Intel will have the supply side impact needed to address the demand either by itself. The only near term supply shock that could shift prices down dramatically (and the norm if not lower) is if miners actually do start unloading their cards.

What's helping the situation is that it seems like the demand (at least in terms of price premium) has subsided significantly due to the still prolonged crypto price drop. The crypto situation could actually be a bit of a timing issue for Intel (albeit back then I thought the more likely trigger would Proof of Stake given the the dates). A focus on the OEM side though would also help alleviate the possible issue of a retail channel uncertainty if not a outright "crash" due to the currently uncertainty going into Q2/Q3 with what will happen to crypto/Ethereum.

I didn't know about the workstation part. Drivers team have a lot to work on...

Workstation being after consumer isn't really atypical, if anything it's more common. Nvidia launching Turing for workstations first was more atypical. Granted this is getting bit more less defined as well with Nvidia and AMD having "pro" specific archs/designs now. Workstation after consumer on the CPU side is also the norm for each generation.

Their gpus could he aimed at the lower-end gaming market. The pc gaming market is very diverse.
Intel has been saying it'll be comparable to a 3070, not me. ;)

It's based on the likely hardware configuration of the top SKU. 256 bit with 16 Gbps GDDR6, 4096 FPUs at 2ghz+, and 200w+ TDP. Granted this does depend on what you actual define vague terms as "comparable" and "lower end" but it would be a massive miss and shock if that much hardware was worse than GA106 (RTX 3060) performance. However you could still say it's disappointing that at 1.5 years behind (and the tail end of the current generation) you're only arguably competitive against RTX 3070.

I'm curious as to what their 'Endgame' service is. Can't see them going head to head with GeForce Now.

Apparently they'll offer it for more than gaming, but not a full on service like AWS. That's one thing that doesn't make GeForce Now suitable for me as a paid service (especially as a replacement for discrete GPU) as I use the GPU for things other than gaming.

it got my attention that they've chosen a relative old game -Lara Croft- which is not a graphics showcase, to show ARC
"Lara Croft" isn't a game? It's likely Rise of the Tomb Raider or Shadow of the Tomb Raider which aren't exactly poor graphics.

do you remember any recent Lara Croft game -not those you mention- other than Lara Croft the Temple of Osiris and another one before that which I purchased back in the day too-? Those are isometric games, fun and all, but they are more about puzzles than proper games to showcase XESS

Did you look at the tweets at all, or just go from the text? Look at the image, it's clearly one of the two recent games, it looks like Shadow.
