inFAMOUS Second Son [PS4]

Well I think the biggest change was having a new main character.

His new ability is the turning into smoke which is pretty cool.

Cole never had any similar power in Infamous 1 or 2.

No but turning into a flock of bats in Festival of Blood (excellent standalone dlc) comes close. ;)

This game will be sick I know it...

Sucker Punch are Sony's best studio purchase (besides MM) this past gen, and they have more than proved their worth with InFamous and InFamous 2.

I remember the insane levels of hype I had over InFamous 1, and both that game and its sequel delivered multiple fold. I absolutely adored InFamous 1 & 2, and I can't wait for Second Son.

Actually after the way I2 ended i was fearful that InFamous would die, as i couldn't see how they'd continue the story with Cole without retconning I2's end. I'm hoping for a massive plot twist in Second Son too, as I1's was so epic that it has to be my most memorable moment in gaming for the last 5 years :D

Can't wait for this!

They said most of it. I wonder what they meant by that? Maybe the last sequence was CG, because it looked too good, but who knows.
Most likely they pre-rendered the scenes for the security monitors, I doubt they rendered all of them in real time.

That's what I thought too. No game renders monitors scenes in real time, as that would be rather silly, but they said that just to be on the safe side. Maybe the different scenes themselves: Street vs. Surveillance Room were rendered in real time but seperately, and edited together later too, as is also rare for games to cut to completely different locations during real time cutscenes, they usually rely on FMV that's needed.

Be a shame if there is no electricity based powers, would look especially awesome using next gen effects. I cant really imagine how the fire based equivalents of the powers in previous games would look, too 'messy'...

Would be awesome if you could basically choose from a set of a few different elemental powers. Maybe you start with fire and smoke and then can move to radiation, electricity, wind and ice/water.

Would be pretty badass :D

inFamous: Second Son was one of a number of PlayStation 4 titles unveiled during the console’s announcement event in February. Although Sony has already shown a debut trailer, details have been mostly kept under wraps – until now.

The latest issue of Game Informer contains a blowout of inFamous: Second Son through a 10-page cover story. We’ve rounded up some information from the magazine below, but you can find even more content – including screenshots – in the publication’s June 2013 release.

- Conduits now referred to as bioterrorists
- New area of government keeps track of the conduits: Department of Unified Protection
- Condits have been identified, holding them without trial in containment facilities
- Department of Unified Protection shows its power during an operation that doesn’t go as planned in Seattle
- Transport vehicle crashes and the conduits escape
- DUP sets up roadblocks and won’t let anyone enter/leave
- Condits have been identified, holding them without trial in containment facilities
- Department of Unified Protection shows its power during an operation that doesn’t go as planned in Seattle
- Transport vehicle crashes and the conduits escape
- DUP sets up roadblocks and won’t let anyone enter/leave
- Lots of security systems are sent out and Seattle is turned into something reminisint of an airport
- There are elevated walkways with search-lights and security cameras as well as checkpoints and scanners
- Game has parallels to post-9/11 America setting
- Security vs. freedom theme
- DUP is like the TSA

DUP guards

- DUP guards feature behavior similar to that of SWAT teams/trained military police
- Others have a seemingly supernatural ability to shield themselves and move around quickly
- Sucker Punch won’t elaborate on this further

Protagonist

- Stars 24-year-old Native American Delsin Rowe
- Delsin is the artistic type with a chip on his soldier
- Fan of anti-authoritarian street art
- Likes tagging buildings with his own art
- Very much an average guy until the conduit-transport vehicle crashes
- Delsin tries to help those in the wreck, and learns that he’s been a conduit all along with dragging an injured conduit from the area
- Soon realizes that he can control smoke
- Natural power lets him absorb other conduits’ power
- Can use more than smoke power
- Delsin is excited about his power unlike Cole

Gameplay

- Delsin can take down different forward-operating bases run by the DUP around Seattle
- Can get through these areas with force, but eliminating security systems is more effective
- Smoke projectile at Delsin’s disposal
- Also can perform a smoke-dash maneuver somewhat like Nightcrawler
- Air ducts found all across Seattle
- Can use the ducts to get around or climb like Cole
- Another technique lets Delsin throw smoking fireballs
- When Delsin descends, he can perform a “move” like Cole’s thunder drop
- Forests act as the edge of the game world
- Another move: smoke cloud; immobilize enemies
- Can restock on smoke from chimneys, destroyed cars, and even tear gas canister
- Can also use Delsin’s chain as an alternative weapon
- Absorb smoke by pressing both thumbs down on the touchpad
- Touchpad can also be used to free conduits in cells
- Team wants to simply the controls; inFamous 2 actions required multiple button presses
- One moment of the demo lets players make a decision about killing a DUP officer or not
- Can switch between entire sets of power that complement each other

General

- Sucker Punch recreated the city’s feel instead of specific road layout
- Can also use Delsin’s chain as an alternative weapon
- Absorb smoke by pressing both thumbs down on the touchpad

Controls

- Touchpad can also be used to free conduits in cells
- Team wants to simply the controls; inFamous 2 actions required multiple button presses

This is what Sony does wrong ! It keeps no surprises for E3, things are thrown out each week, slowly, befoe E3. Even last year SOny kept sneaking out one game after another before E3. C'mon Sonny, let the whole info surprise explosion happen on E3. Let the gamers brains melt with "so many awesome games !".

Instead, just like last year, they will show almost all of thier before the actual conference :-/

Pretty neat we can have all those high res textures even in an open world game. Fancy particle effect, reflection and Bokeh DOF seem to be the go to effect for nextgen.

They already showed Second Son so the surprise effect is gone; showing more of the game is the right move IMO.
Sony this way is giving players more reasons to stay focused on PS4 and with MS conference being so close it's a good thing.
Why should Sony leave MS "time to breath" and stay silent till E3?

Also we didn't see Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, SCE Japan studio games yet and I bet Sony will keep them for E3.

@Bagel seed

Where is the info/screen explosion from?

What we saw earlier was just an in-engine trailer. These are actual gameplay screens.

Anyways, you like the way they do it, I don't ! I would rather they have one brain melting conference, rather than give away the info one by one and create a lukewarm response.

Anyways, Sony knows this cannot keep people away from a next gen COD reveal, in any case ...

Sure, sure.
That would be great as well.

Anyway anything is better then WiiU "no more conference" ;)
