Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

Despite some deficiencies, NHL15 really is a nice looking game overall.

The thing is, the game sells a million copies a year, and a chunk of that goes to paying the NHL license. It's not like FIFA and Madden where they can dump resources into it. It's easy to think EA should dump huge resources into it, but they need the game to be profitable. I'm sort of worried they're at a point where they don't have the people and resources to keep up with next-gen and the series will die.

A lot of people are complaining about it being hard to read the names on the jerseys and that the text does not look sharp. On top of sub-1080p, it could be bad texture filtering or maybe reuse of the old jersey textures from last gen (wouldn't surprise me).

I wish I could find some good image captures, but all I can find is youtube videos and animated gifs people have made.

Here some USB shared screenshots I have made from the demo. The game looks that blurry even on my screen, and I would assume that lack of clarity doesn't come only from the upcaled ~900p, could be also coming from some heavy post processing effect, maybe like UFC.

Hopefully it's a solid 60 fps. Solid 60fps or fail.

Used to love NHL on the Megadrive, then found PSX/Saturn era hockey games unsatisfying and just ... stopped playing them.

It's certainly not a solid 60fps from what l played, some serious slowdown when the camera zooms up close to the players.

The 4th pic looks like it has some pretty obvious aliasing that's visible even with the compression artifacts. They stand out on the window edges and the railings. I'm not a pixel counter though.

There are some post AA artefacts but the 3rd and 4th are definitely 1080p native at least vertically and the 5th image is native 1080p horizontally verified.

Bloodborne TGS, gamersyde camshot video

The FXAA induced shimmering seen in motion in Bloodborne is really heavy. Impossible not to notice it even on this bad quality camshoted video. As the game is very detailed, with good geometry, high resolution of textures/shaders, it's even more noticeable. What a waste.

Japanese developers really don't know what image quality is, they almost exclusively all use some blurry FXAA on every PS4 games. Sony japanese developers included.

EDIT: just seen the official youtube trailer, I noticed the same heavy FXAA induced shimmering on distant geometry and high resolution textures/shaders.
