Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

Hehh, so now that the resolution is actually known, it's suddenly bad - but just before that, the game was sooo nice?
Goes to show just how subjective people's views are about certain games, they see what they want to see instead of what's actually there.

Unfortunate, but that's what the analysis is for. It certainly doesn't help when we're dealing with compressed video. :)

When I read the impressions from a B3D member(forgot his name starts with an 'A') a while back about how the ps3 compares to the 360 I knew it would not end good for ps3. At least they got one console version looking good, that all that matters for me. Haze also had a 1024 horizontal rez.

Archangelmorph?

Yeah, his impressions were from GDC last year so that's nearly a year ago now.

I finally checked out the PS3 footage on my PC, definitely more soft and washed out than the 360 footage (looked so good on my iPad playing over a 3G connection ).

I'm keen to see some more footage of the PS3 build as i cannot believe that alot of problems with the IQ in the PS3 video aren't due to compression.

Well, we're also dealing with frameblending and possibly their secondary post-process edge AA. Combine that with the resolution deficit, the low-level lighting, the abundant motion-blur... About the only thing that wouldn't be a factor is the geometry pop or the magically appearing waterfalls.

And there goes my hope of 1280 x 704 res, knew it's a pipe dream judging from that 350mb footage. It makes me wonder though, why are the console config file res so much different then the actual builds?

I guess Crytek played it smart by stating "720p" on consoles, they just never said anything about 1152 or 1024 for the horizontal lines.

It'll be interesting to see if they do end up using their edge AA process considering it kind of just blurs things in the foreground. :s

Sigh, people just can't resist turning threads into a tit-for-tat discussion! :devilish: A few times I've already tried to steer conversation back to what the thread is about, but it seems some of you need just cannot resist getting worked up and feel the need to derail things again. If you can't handle bothering to remember that the thread is about analysis, and that user bias/opinions are not for this thread, then just stop posting. Just stop.

It should be implied that an analysis thread exists here so that we can avoid the crap that happens from apparent biases and whatnot thus turning the thread into some childish bickering. Just drop the matter folks.

yeah a few games are guilty of this as well, GT5 being one.
either they need to state the number of pixels eg 1.23MP or the actual resolution 1000x680

Any words on the AA on the DA2 demo for the PS3? It does not look like QAA or Sony's MLAA. My guess is it's their own custom MLAA solution.

Heh, he actually mentions 1152x720 for consoles. He doesn't distinguish between the two SKUs. Curious. :p If that holds true for the PS3 SKU, that does raise the question of Mazinger's chosen shot (dynamic light) against the scene I took (world light). Perhaps the lighting has something to do with it as the entire video is continuous, so it couldn't be a mix of builds.

Bah, just going to wait for the beta before looking more into this.

Multiplayer demo I meant. I guess it's too late to do much public testing to adjust the end product.
