IHV Business strategies and consumer choice

Funny thing happened, Assassin's Creed Mirage got released, and the AMD advantage is wiped out. A 3080 is almost as fast as 6900XT at 4K. And NVIDIA GPUs are ahead of AMD GPUs. The 4080 is 18% ahead of the 7900XTX at 4K.

@Bold That result doesn't match up with what the others are seeing where they're both showing that the 7900 XTX is slightly faster than the 4080 ...

Still several more games to come out by the end of this year ...

Heavily overclocked 7900XTXs with 2.9GHz to 3GHz boost clocks. Results are not applicable.
One guy is using a Sapphire Nitro+ SKU which is 2% faster on average compared to the reference card. The other guy was still able to reach over 90FPS on maximum settings at 4K. Even factoring in your over attribution to them being overclocked, the reference model should be able to comfortably match the 4080 in the worst case scenario rather than come in at a >15% deficit which leads me to believe that GameGPU's results is the clear outlier here ...

Even DSO results show an 87FPS average which very closely matches the 4080 or ever so slightly edges it out ...

If my memory serves me correctly, Syndicate was the last entry with MSAA and FXAA.
Looked it up, and yes, you're right, they've been doing TAA since Origins.

Not sure what you're arguing with really. All the benchmarks show that the game runs a lot better than Valhalla ever did or does on Nvidia h/w.

Here's GameGPU's fresh Valhalla benchmark from this year:

Here's another proper Mirage benchmark for reference:

They both used a custom scene instead of the in-game benchmark tool. Once again, the 7900 XTX is still faster than the 4080 for the in-game benchmark ...

Aaaand we're back to square one.
It's insane to see AMD extract this much performance out of a D3D12 title with drivers btw
They didn't extract any more performance than they already had previously before they released a new driver. GameGPU results were simply just inconsistent with the other independent tests as mentioned before ...

Seems like a reasonable decision.

TPU: “ While an integrated benchmark is available, we picked a custom test scene in the main city that includes typical activities and a mix of busy and lighter areas. The game's own benchmark focuses on a flyby, which is unrealistic, because you will never encounter such view distances during actual gameplay.”

What do they mean by "activations"?
Our video cards were tested at resolutions of 1920x1080 , 2560x1440 and 3840x2160 at maximum graphics quality settings with automatic upscaling disabled. The game has a limited number of activations per day and we will add the rest of the hardware to tests tomorrow.

Well there are downsides to that methodology ...

Introducing a custom test scene can involve cherry-picking or selection bias by the reviewer and the there are more non-deterministic conditions going on within the game as well so the playing field isn't quite as even between the different runs ...

Those downsides can be easily remedied by publishing a video of the sequence tested.

Not really since you still have the same selection/confirmation bias originating potentially from a more fallible arbiter and no set of in-game sequence of test scenes will ever be as controlled as the in-game benchmark ...

I hope it won't be as controlled as some prepared flyby since we should know how the game plays. The potentially fallible arbiter is hardly a risk worth considering, since devs are also that.

So every other benchmark is showing 6800XT being 33% faster than 3080 in 1440p?

expect the gap to grow ever wider with the coming of AC Mirage and Lords of the Fallen
And the second game goes down. Lords of the Fallen runs well across both the 7900XTX and 4080.

The 7900 XTX now has a runaway lead in AC Mirage against against the 4080 and upto ~30%+ performance with the newest driver ...
