I'm not sure what your beef really is with what Allard said, since others are in agreement that "sloppy" is a poor choice of words, though it's probably not too far off the mark. He says that the tools aren't there yet, so he's in agreement with you as well. He admits they got final hardware late, meaning it's MS fault.

It'd be a more interesting discussion though if you came back with something other than "it's stupid".

Allard's comment on ventilation holes is stupid.

Also if dev have to cut content then it's a rushed launch. i have no beef will allard.

Also about sony 1.5 comments were at E3 where MS games were not running on final hardware or final builds of the games. I think we all can say the games look 2x better now. So maybe the 1.5 comments were right on during e3. The hardware was about half of final and the games were not even close from being done.

The question I have is why are people dismissing Allard's point about compression as dodging the DVD storage limitation? It would seem he's being very direct about the issue, though with poor wording on the sloppy part--even though that's probably exactly why it's an issue. If the tools aren't there yet and the devs don't have time to invest in working around it, it's going to be an issue.

And from what I understand, audio is the largest consumer of storage space, so I don't see how procedural synthesis will help at all here (but I do see how compression would help).

The problem with that reasoning is, if you analyze current generation games the audio is usually the largest consumer on the disc, however that's still usually only 20-30% of the game tops, and that usually works out to <1GB.

And we're not really expecting audio to grow all that much on next generation games ar we?

Oblivion has something like 250hours of audio and, IIRC, they're using about half the DVD just for audio, so that's about 3.8GB worth as a very extreme example.

The same thing could be used otherwise by Sony: "360 unlike PS3 is finalised and MS has got no idea yet what we have under our sleeve because we have more time to work on PS3 and we are still improving it so its still away from completion......Unlike Microsoft's 360".

Its not like both will be released at a similar time period.A couble of months ago XBOX360 didnt even have final kits shipped to developers.And in July they didnt even have real XBOX360's dev kits.At the same period Sony showed how PS3 will look like and he took that example.

Its like Sony stating now how crap XBOX360 is because of its not so great appearance at E3 back in July.Which was like hell months ag.We now see how much improved 360 is compared to back then and it wows

Its a stupid effort to make things look like "Sony has nothing to show unlike us and you can trust US and not THEM....I mean....the thing doesnt even have vents.They are lying".As if Sony tricked us into thinking that everything is ready while nothing's truthfull of what they have shown was just a smoke screen that will have nothing to do with what they have shown before when its released.As if we didnt know whats going on already

well he's been ASKED by people to compare X360 to PS3.

He's not out there beating a drum saying, "Sony's not ready".

He's just saying: stop comparing our system, which is almost at market, to a system that is an empty shell. Wait until they are where we are and then we can compare what we have to what they actually bring to market, not just what they "propose" to bring.

He's doin EXACLY what i said before. trying to kill the PS3 hype because its affecting 360 in a BIG way. PS3..is not even finished yet and it has microsoft scared because the hype is bein stolen from a complete 360 and now all the attention is on PS3. and THAT is somthing you want when your about to launch a console in a few months.

Bottom line is that you will be able to BUY a 360 in 4 weeks. Actual product vs hype winner goes to actual product by TKO. JMHO
