How would you react when the PSX3 spec reads 240~480 GFLOPS?

Nothing is impossible.

What about my chances of bedding Salma Hayek and Catherine Zeta-Jones at the same time? :p ;)

Well it depends, in reality now? future illegal clones? future vr simulation? future robots? ... any of those are possible, though the odds are ridiculously against you in some of em...

How about within the next 24 hours? (It's been a slow weekend so far.)

PlayStation 2 had the Emotion Engine.

PlayStation 3 is a machine for the broadband era and will likely have the Broadband Engine.

Do you remember the specs of the Broadband Engine in Suzuoki's patent ? ;)

You could miraculously end up in the same bar/club(friend misteriously invite you) by coincidence, and either be very lucky to have them be seriously drunk or misteriously willing... or if u'r evil drug em... or in a more unrealistic scenario... you could be misteriously teleported to a parallel universe were they're your s3x slaves or your lovers...

Though the odds are seriously against you in all three... but it could happen.

If you want more realistic odds... it depends how far you're willing to go... and how much you're willing to risk... you could get some cash(get it out of your bank account/sell house/borrow/steal/etc)... get in a plane... find'em and get EVIL... the path of the dark side....

PS2 - EMOTION Engine

I saw "emotion" in MGS2 and SH3

PS3 - BROADBAND Engine

PS3 hooked up over the net sharing power won't work, the bandwidth requirements needed for internal rendering are already extrememly high. And sorry to break it to Kutaragi, but rarely anyone has 100mbs Fiber to the home yet.

But Cell will be network orientated and Cell will handle network packets very well, for what purpose we don't know though.

For Home CELL computing ( not real-time 3D maybe ) we can already do it with WiFi 802.11 and in countries like Germany, Sweden, North Italy, Japan, Korea, etc... by 2005-2006 a lot of people will have Broadband and several ones will havce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet in their house.

The US is one of the farthest behind in the broadband scene. Most people who have Broadband Fall into the 1500/128 or 1500/256 range coupled with an average of 50ms latency..

On average.

To get 10mbs/100mbs Ethernet speeds we need fiber, and this isn't going to be hugely rolled out by 2005. 2010 sure though.

This is all assuming a PS3's linked up over net scenario.

But your Cell home computing thing I don't quite understand; what do you mean by cell home computing.

Data Sharing and some computation sharing ( latency permitting ) between all of your CELL enabled devices.

Why do not we allow CELL devices distribute processing over the LAN segment they are on ? :)

Kutaragi said he expects to see in local Networks the first steps of CELL computing which can later expands on the ISP side and over larger and larger networks.

I was not talking about the U.S. though, I listed the countries which will lead the way in that technology field, U.S. has a problem outside the very big cities, too many Americans live far from each other and too well spread out, making thew broadband revolution more difficult and expensive to realize.

Oh so it would be your Hook up PS3 to Cell TV and the Cell in the tv helps ps3 make the game output at 1080p type of deal than. I get it.

Stuff like that.

It would be cool if Sony made like Cell generators. Little boxes with an optical port on them. These boxes had a few Cell chips in them and you could hook these things up to Cell powered devices(ps3) to give said devices more computing power.

Hey, we got PLENTY of Emotion from the PS2 at launch! The aliasing woes were making many people cry... :p ;)

Meanwhile, I must be off to formulate plans. Zidane has given me something to aspire to! :devilish: :devilish: :devilish:

Remember Sony execs stating that CELL would have TERAFLOPS of processing power? meaning at least 2 TFLOPs. it sounds impossible now, but who knows.

I think that only 256-512 GFLOPs (or in that range) is actually more realistic than TFLOP or TFLOPs power, though. however, dont forget, the GPU should have another 256-512 GFLOPs at least.

Overall, I expect the leap from PS2 to PS3 to be roughly the same as PS1 to PS2. PS3 should add alot more graphics GPU features over PS2, than compared to PS1 to PS2. but performance-wise, the leap should be like PS1 to PS2. that is no more than 100-200x more power.

disapointed maybe. deadmeat barring the impossible (according to your numerous deductions) what might your reaction be if ps3 CELL approaches the TFLOP barrier?
