Help a newb with Home Audio

Sounds good enough to me. I suppose I could pick up an optical cable if it came down to it...
So the question now is how you do the same for your HD cable box. Do you have multiple digital inputs on your receiver?

Looking at the specs of the HTS3555, it doesn't seem to have an optical jack. Just one digital coax.

I'll have to check.

Yeah, I just saw that. Guess it's a no-go. Oh well, as I said, even "virtual" surround sound is still a huge improvement over what I had. I'll wait for the real surround sound system when I get an OLED tv :p

If the receiver will decode DD from the digital coaxal input then you've got a real surround sound system now, you just don't have it hooked up correctly yet. You'll need an Toslink to RCA converter for input, and an Toslink switcher to allow switching between multple sorces.

That will do the trick, and you can find remote control optical switchers elsewere if you don't want the manual one. And how is your TV connected to your receiver now if you don't have an optical input on the receiver, does the TV have a digital coaxal out or are you just using analog?
