I just wanted too share my thought and so on based on The XBOX.

I was playing and watching around with my latest Demodisc, and i got pretty surprised that many games looked that good as they did!

First you know in DOA3 when playing the storymode with the bruce Lee copy when you watch the movie(CG) in the end you really can see his blood under the skin, veins you know.

One of the movies of a new Fighting game/cant remember the name because it was three movies of Fighting games all with Asian name type, had this in realtime and looked sweety as well.

Brute Force looked nice and many other games as well.

The reflections i made of all this is that Halo and DOA3, cert the last one has been saluted as Numero.1 visually in their genres can be raised, not just marginally but VERY much.

I can´t honestly say i have watch movies that much for xbox on TV, most PS2 and least GC. Because i´ve had the PS2 longest and on GC the lack of DVD has done that i have not been able too get my hands on any "demo" disc to my GC.

So whats up with this? Are the NV2A really that good, i guess i been
biased by all talk about the R300 and NV30..

i think nintendo was brilliant on this aspect as we have yet to see the gamecube cracked...

I have seen vids for GC most on my computer, not highquality on my tv.

Yeah with DemoDVD´s i mean the one you get when you buy a Mag that has both playable games and loads of vids.

Can´t you get a magazine with GC "minidvd" somewhere?

i just read about an attempt in progress to add an USB port to the GC and use an USB harddrive, the idea to read burned copy from the GC drive seems unviable..

the fact is if i launch emule (edonkey compatible client), i easily find PS2 titles, xbox titles, but no one gamecube title. so nintendo succeed so far..

of course everything is crackable but i wonder how much until there is some affordable and practical device is created for the GC.

Well I don't think anyone makes miniDVDs for any standard DVD device. IIRC only Panasonic manufactures these miniDVDs for GCN. However, there are miniDVD-RAM discs availble.

Well I can't say for sure because you never know. There's the possibility that a regular 3" CDROM could be used, but those can only hold about 120 MB so any demos included would have to be small ones or only a couple. Of course there's no stopping them from including mpeg video clips of games on the disc though.

I think it would be nice if they could get the regular GC-disc´s someway.

What factors besides the one´s you said could play a role do you think?
I´m really not so informed in this subject.

To get the regular discs they would need Panasonic to press them and that's kind of inconvenient I would think.

I don't know why Nintendo together with developers don't just make these demo discs themselves (like they do for game store display units but on a wider scale). Then they could sell the disks to magazines, at the same sort of price it costs those magazines to make any normal DVD demo disk, to get there money back. It wouldn't make Nintendo or any devs a profit of course, but that's not the point. The point is it would provide something much needed for the system, publically available demo disks, which would be great for the system.

But I fear this may never happen, simply because it wouldn't make direct profit for Nintendo and Nintendo are often ignorant to any idea that won't directly make them money. Although to be fair they are showing change in this respect so far this generation. So hopefully they may eventually realise that wide spread demo CD's are well worth their time and initial monetary investment.

i see often warez reffered as "backup"..

the presence of the double-quotes surrounding the word "demo" made me think it was not to be read in its originalsense but in an other one, and in this that "demo" could mean "warez".

i'm still not sure if overclocked implied it or not. but i think it may be it, otherwise why did he wrote demo b/w double quotes ?

Heh, I'm about ready to send an E-mail to NP about demo discs.

Mini CD's can't be used in GCN; the laser is incapable of reading CD format.

Same with standard mini DVD.

Isn't the drive in GCN just a "normal" DVD drive except that the "casing" that surrounds the drive is made smaller so that a normal sized disc couldn't be fitted? IIRC the portable DVD players on the market can read music CDs etc. which are essentially CDROMs. They can also read 3" CD singles.

Well, portable DVD players can read music CD's because the laser is capable of remodulating to CD standard. And 3" CD singles are CD's.

And why don't you cut a DVD with say <1GB on it (so only a small amount is used) so it'll fit in the GCN's tray and find yout for yourself if it works?

I'm pretty sure the drive mechanism can read it, but of course it also needs software. GCN doesn't have a built-in music menu or DVD menu in the BIOS.
