Halo: Reach

Any reports of places shipping pre-orders yet?

My local Gamestop called me on Monday to tell me that my Legendary pre-order had arrived and that I could pick it up on the 13th at a midnight launch event. The event actually starts at 9 pm culminating with the release.

It's a good thing I'm on leave for the week of the launch, although it wasn't planned that way.

I'm almost thinking I should have gone for next day shipping. :p It'll be a while for me as I used standard 3 day ground shipping (free) for my pre-order of the Halo Reach console bundle. But maybe Newegg will be kind and ship it out early since it'll take 3 days to get here? :D

Ditto here. Still time to upgrade the pre-order though?

I ordered from a small local store, but will attend the launch party (an old friend works at that store line). Dunno if I'm gonna be able to get it sooner than midnight or not ;)

Yeah did the same, there is a local store less than a block away and they are having a midnight reach launch party. Hoping they will let it slip by a few hours.

Wooh, just finished my masters degree programme today, now to finish ODST before Tuesday. Life is very good right now.:D:D:D

Just as I was thinking of doing that I got an e-mail saying my CC has been charged. So, too late now. :p But at least that means it's presumably shipping today. Which means I'll get it Tuesday maybe. So not too sad if that's the case.

I'll just have to avoid this thread come Monday. :D

Cant believe all these fools who mail order a game like Reach, then are crying come release day. I ALWAYS go midnight launch for big games :p

Amazon's share of total game software sales is probably not that important though. There's been many cases where leading their charts had almost no effect on the actual NPD statistics at all.

Then again, Reach is definitely going to sell pretty well.

Yeah it wasnt some big statement, just a funny little thing. I was surprised the 250GB bundle could get up to #4 to complete the quadfecta.

I've been playing Halo Wars to get ready for Reach. Actually putting myself under pressure to beat it before Monday (since I had never beat Halo 2 or Wars). It's only deepened my appreciation for the Halo franchise as it's a great little game. I'm sure it's a training wheels RTS but I like it a lot as a RTS noob. It makes me appreciate a little better all the Ensemble killing off backlash, as well as wonder why more RTS arent on console. The fact I'm enjoying Wars a lot AND Reach is right around the corner is like I'm drowning in Halo goodness.

Found this article regarding Halo's AI, seems fitting to post it since it was mentioned recently:

http://aigamedev.com/open/reviews/halo-ai/

Very interesting read. Particularly that in order to make the AI appear smarter to the player they often have to "dumb down" the AI. Too sophisticated decision making that the player can't instantly recognize will make the player think the AI is buggy, random, or dumb. A bit counter intuitive but makes sense once you think about it in practice.

As well, interesting to note all the shortcuts that have to be taken when designing AI in order to prevent it from using all computational resources which would then reduce framerate, etc.
