Halo 3 release date: Confirmed *Sept 25th

... anytime this year, you mean? No, don't think they've shown a single thing. I'm certain it'll be at this years E3 though. September release and distinct lack of SP gameplay footage and all.

... and if it's about graphics, they better exceed what they showed at last year's E3. Afterall, they had a 7 minute video where they constantly repeated that that was all realtime, the actual engine in the then-current state, what Halo 3 "really looks like", "this is our bar that we're shooting for in real gameplay" and so on... and that's on top of being "expanded" beyond a barren plane, a hole in the ground, a few ships and a far off city. And they sure as hell better have learned from their mistakes from Halo 2.

Regarding the contents of the Legendary edition: the solution for the art book is excellent. Digital, AND expanded, as it should be considering the lack of a physical copy. Heh.

Edit: Pfft.... well, mine's longer....

my e-peen, I mean

Now that the MP Beta is over, any guesses for surprises in the final version?

Looking at the MP intro I was thinking maybe some day/night changes/cycles and weather (including those nice volumetric fog) effects...

:)

the game is only a few months away before release and they ahve shown nothing of the SP game. This is crazy!

Hopefully they will show it at E3.

Perhaps they are having something special in the SP mode and they are deliberatly delaying it until E3 to counter Sony's possible big showings

Masterchief's face modeled in the Halo 3 Beta?

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/the-face-of-halos-master-chief/

It's a video showing a quirk in Mongoose' camera such that the screen intersects the helmet...

It doesn't *look* fake, but...

grabbed from another forum:

Oh btw, the photo I grabbed has those mouth scratches there that was added by another forum user. Personally, I don't think there is supposed to be a mouth there. I think it's a ring of helmet padding of some sort.

Pretty interesting that the face is all scarred and... not just a ghostly caucasian (as per the description in the 2nd novel).

Bungie is contributing to Global Warming! :runaway:

I hate it when they compute an equivalent to X number of man-years. What's the point? The 350TB of data sounds pretty high.

820,000 ppl times like a 900 meg download is alot. Plus the actul data exchange while playing. Um, uploading your video to the site. There could be some truth the the 350TB of data.

The interesting thing to me is that I was reading about the ARG and they mentioned "Adjutant Reflex -- the name of a Forerunner AI if we've ever heard one --"

and it immediately reminded me how good the single player campaign in Halo 1 actually was. Not just action wise, but also the story.

I've always known that the SP campaign in Halo 2 turned me off because it felt too disjointed switching sides, but I didn't realize how much until I read that statement and had flashbacks to the fun of the SP campaign.... from Halo 1!

This entire time I've been thinking about Halo 3 almost entirely as a MP (all the MP beta talk doesn't hurt any), because that was the best part of Halo 2.

I actually got a little excited thinking about the possibilities of 'forerunner AI's' and an entertaining SP campaign along the lines of Halo 1.

With absolutely no news about the SP campaign for Halo 3, it's either something they are refocusing their attention on and trying to blow people away with an Epic story-telling conclusion... or they are going to butcher it even worse and focus just on the MP.

I know what I'm hoping for. A great SP campaign might actually make me purchase a 360.

It sounds like the Prophet of Truth is reading the white text, and the bulk is translated text of a scripture the Covenant found.

well of course... why would they lie? it's DATA from server counts, how hard is that.

They can't be including the download of the Beta in that number, could they? 820,000 people (assuming no multiple accounts per Xbox, and not including split-screen guests) is going to lead to nearly 700TB. If we do assume all had guests or a second account (410,000 Xboxes) the total is about 335-340TB.

hm........ I hate it when the statistics aren't specific. It's just like Xbox Live accounts versus Gold Memberships.

I saw that same math as well, but I decided to not post that stupidly large number.

I'm in the middle of playing it again (it's been years), and you're definitely right about that. I'd forgotten just how well done the whole story is. I'd also forgotten just how much I hate, hate, hate the Flood. :)

I only play Halo for the SP, so I'm rooting for an awesome SP campaign in the final installment. I would also love if the AIs (UNSC, Forerunner, and Covenent) were more involved in the final game. They're all pretty important characters in the Halo books, so maybe we'll get lucky.

Sidenote, but Eric Nylund's 3 Halo books are really quite good, and do an excellent job of filling in the gaps between the games, plus fleshing out the Halo universe quite a bit.
