Halo 3 release date: Confirmed *Sept 25th

Weekly update

For Halo 3, we simply played through the entire Campaign, bugs and all, and thanks to the fact that our game is still a ways away, it was pretty buggy. However, all of the content was there, every mission and character and encounter – and the graphics, while far from polished, were correct to those that will be seen in the final game, certainly as far as gore and so on are concerned.

In these cases, the USK gives you a “preliminary” rating, meaning that if the final game they see differs significantly, they can (and occasionally do) change the rating. Funnily enough, although I’m not going to share our preliminary rating at this time, one thing that concerned the USK was “atmosphere and scale of encounters.” To which I say smugly, “ganz gut!”

The quest for the final and real Halo 3 box art is at an end. Microsoft has officially released the art, and they've added a new wrinkle as well. Upon close inspection of the Limited Edition, you can see that there are in fact three discs in the package. This is interesting considering the Limited Edition comes only with Halo 3 and one bonus DVD. Upon even closer inspection, you can clearly see that the DVD on the upper right is labeled "Game Disc Two."

I have mine pre-ordered hoping the SP campaign is really good.

stinkles on GAF mentioned that the art on the disk is old because they had to get that out far in advance but the disk that says "game disk 2" doesn't mean that there's a separate disk for multiplayer and singleplayer but that there's two extra disks with videos on them. I thought they said the limited edition comes in a tin?

Legendary has a helmet that houses the DVD cases. I think it comes in a giant box.

I wonder how they are going to fit the art booklet inside the tin. Or maybe it's a separate item altogether? (for the Limited Edition)

Do you have a link to Frankie's post? There are two bonus video discs with the Legendary edition, but not for the Limited Edition. That's what the link is all about; people were expecting only two discs for the LE, one for the game, one for the first bonus disc.

edit: Did Frankie mean that "Game Disc 2" referred to the second bonus disc? And its presence in the Limited Edition photo is just an accident?

confuzzled

OH god I am CRYING here. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I could not for the life of me figure out what the hell people were getting excited for - I just saw the shot.

One of the bonus discs is a DVD and one of the bonus discs is a 360 executable - like the Official Xbox Mag disc. The language should have been changed for the retail box art stuff but they walways need those shots so far in advance.

HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAH.

Anyway, I will chat more about the bonus stuff on today's update.

lol.

woo update!

lol Some of the pics in that thread are hilarious.

I wonder if he had already planned on talking about the bonus stuff. Good to know he'll be doing it though. :)

I'll bet that since the Legendary doesn't get the art book (Yeah...), they'll make it an interactive DVD. And I'm sure Microsoft would like it if they just replaced the art books with cheap DVDs in the Limited tin as well, circumstances permitting.

The other froth was caused by the revelation that the Limited Edition would contain one piece of content that isn't in the Legendary Edition. Well, don't worry about that at all. The Legendary Edition purchasers will be pleased to know that they will not have to live without that content at all. More on that later (some of the details are still being worked out), but it should be smiles and sunshine. Seriously.

Perhaps they're including it on the second bonus disc. Hopefully today is the "more on that later" day. :)

It's too bad they're only including the 720p cinematics + commentary on the second disc only. I wish there was a SKU without the helmet really.

I cant believe people actually thought the biggest game in Xbox history would ship on more than one disc. Come on now people.

Why not?

The last thing I would want to see is a game limited by politics like that.

Bungie: We really need 2 discs for all this content.
MS: No, you're the 'biggest game of all time', so downgrade your assets!

Basically, it would force them to make a worse game (assuming they need the space), for marketing purposes. Ass-backwards imo.

So the collector's edition gets an art book while the legendary edition gets it on DVD and with more content to boot. Damn you Bungie! I couldn't give a damn about the helmet. :devilish:

Looks like I'm chancing a pre-order and then waiting for the console price drop. Maybe someone on eBay will want the Helmet.

....Someone.:devilish:
