Hack/driver to use 360 controller in PS3 Linux mode

..Why anyone would want to do that when sixaxis has as moreaxises and just as many buttons and sticks and paddles and widgets.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before (I've been sick a coupel days), I noticed it off Joystiq.com who linked to ps3****** who linked it back to the original sourxe..

Seems i tonly supports the wired controller. Maybe because 360 controller isn't bluetooth compatible or maybe because someone in the comments said bluetooth isn't available in linux. Or aybe the USB 360 wireless adapter could be made to work on PS3..

In any case it's cool people develop and release stuff. Those who prefer the heftier weight of 360 pad may want to check this out perhaps while playing SNES emulators and whatnot.

Peace.

I wouldn't consider it a hack it's just a USB controller, there was drivers for linux on the PC already, all they had to do was recompile the driver for PPC AFAIK

it seems to be a lot of news about people getting regular computer parts to work with PS3 linux but most of that stuff worked under linux anyway, so I don't see what the big deal is really

Well, since no game out actually uses Sixaxis for anything useful, and considering that the X360 kontroller has better analog sticks and a much much much better placement of them, i can see alot of people using that feature.

thats your opinion.

One which I don't see how many can disagree with, unless perhaps a person has very small hands. If you reach for something and pick it up (such as a book), your thumb naturally falls into positions similar to those provided by the sticks on the 360 controllers. The PS controllers I've always found required me to extend my thumb in a rather unnatural way.

Never had that problem.

But I certaintly have a huge problem with 360's for fighting games

Please.. Let's not have a controller war.

I've seen far too many of those obn various sites.. Nobody can ever agree on the other's viewpoint and it just ends up with a whole lot of posts of opinions and nonsense hehe.

I can't even imagine getting universal consensus that the jaguar's controller was crap as I've talked to peopl that quite liked it.

Peace.

well regardless of controller preferences in this thread.... it's interesting to note that MS may now make some money by unwittingly selling an unsanctioned peripheral to Sony users.

Very limited application though. I mean, and XB360 controller in Linux? How many Linux applications benefit from a ontroller? Is anything that complicated it'd benefit from something different than the sixiaxis?

At first I thought this was a breakthrough in reading MS's wireless controller, but if it's just the USB device, it's not exciting. I guess this makes news for the irony of seeing something XB360 on a PS3.

ahhh my bad... didn't read and thought it was for games.

Emulators and games mainly I'd assume. Some remote control applications perhaps or maybe R/C simulators? If any such are available.

I suppose you could fly a virtual helicopter with it or something. Of course sixaxis would work pretty much just as well. It owld mostly just be a matter of taste which one people would prefer.

Irony perhaps. Or maybe moral victory instead. PS3 conquers 360 pad? Oh nevermind.

I think most would agree people poking around and seeing what the6y can make work is a good thing. It will lead to more bits of the PS3 getting opened up for homebewr apps (hopefully anyway). Next is perhaps getting 360 webcam to work? Heh...

Peace.
