GTA4 - how does it rate?

It's getting close to Holiday season that hopefully we get some news and hype about this! I wonder how they'll market it?

Hopefully in a very public way.

To be totally honest, I'd forgotten that it was coming. I'll be really interested in seeing how it does. I'm still struggling to work out the consensus view on GTA4 and how it was received; if such a thing is possible of course. It seems it really divided opinion (on forums at least).

Unlike GTA3 (+ the 2 sequels) The hype for this title died extremely quick, Why was that?
has GTA become just another title

btw its apparent now T2 should of taken the money :)

Yep, there were alot of people who swore that the price would go into the $30's (which it never did) and thus EA's offer wasn't worth it. Now it's barely over $15 and a poor showing of their 360 DLC could sink it into single digits. Indeed, EA's offer was the only thing propping it up. Unless there was a white knight involved behind the scenes of this whole thing don't be surprised by a full scale revolt at the next shareholders meeting.

I think people were hoping for/expecting game play more like this

In theory the framework is there for the DLC to be totally crazy. In theory.

Personally I think that'd be a smart move. Firstly because of the fairly widespread(?) reaction to GTA4 and secondly... who wants more of the same? It'd make the DLC really stand out.

I played some multiplayer for the first time in months last night. Had a good time with it. I really hope the DLC expands multiplayer a bit. A few new modes would be nice. Any word at all on what type of content they'll add?

Anybody else see GTAIV television ads recently?

I usually FF through the commercials and I saw 'GTA IV' and had to go back and see if it was an add for the upcoming DLC or something.

Nope.. just said 'Available now on 360 and PS3, coming soon to the PC'

I just found it odd to launch an ad campaign this late in the game for the PC version. Isn't the PC version going to get the same DLC as the 360? Wouldn't that be a better hook?

A while back Rockstar, or Take Two, I forget, said that they were going to try to push GTA4 for the holidays. This must be it.

The trophy patch for PS3 owners is out tomorrow.

I guess I will find out if I really am a trophy whore. Trophies made me complete Burnout to 101% if they have the same effect with GTA 4 there's no hope for me

The big rumor is that the downloadable content will be a zombie outbreak theme since they've found zombie art assets in the game. ;)

That would be amazing. And unusual. My mind's not comprehending the concept very well; it's just so... wtf.

We'll find out soon enough I guess.

Yeah, it's up. I'm sort of happy in that I didn't get very far into the game at all. But just sort-of because I'm worried that the trophies won't help either. But I did at least get that one for getting the first mission, just to try them out. ;)

I assume you gotta start over for trophies to work?

I just tried it, and trophies are not retroactive atleast, i didn't get any trophies at all but then i didn't do much that would warrant trophies either.
I think you have to start all over, just like with Unchartered.. :(

there are some big letters in the left-top telling you you need to start a new game for trophies

although i enjoyed and completed GTAIV, my favourite of the franchise has been (and will likely forever be) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

So no excitement here about the DLC?

I think it's a great idea, far more than what I had expected, if the early reports are true that you get to play a different character, with a different back story, through different missions in essentially the same play ground.

It's a brilliant idea. Recycle the canvas but allow users to paint a new picture.

Hopefully, they've added a few new twists, which I'm sure they have... like weapons or vehicles. I'm more interested in the DLC than I thought I would be. I figured it just be more of Niko, and that story was tired halfway through.
