GT4 Reviews start rolling in...

"We" doesn't prove anything.

Please read them without funboy enthusiasm and expectations.
It already proves more than anything you said....

Please.... If this "we" comparison irks you badly, you can shoot them an email clarifying. http://ps2.ign.com/email.html

Other than it let enjoy the different racers on show.

At the end of the day there shouldn't be "GT" fanboys and "Forza" fanboys.
Gamers who like racing games tend to buy them all, or at least the ones that are worth getting.

I freaking love racing games and i've played them all and i love how they all feel different, that's the whole point of having different racing games.

I loved the Sega Rally's, Ridge Racing, GT, Wipeout, and all the racing games that were worth people's time.

If Forza is good, and it looks like it will, better for all of us!!

Yes there are many different racers on show. As long as you enjoy them of what they provides, clean sim accurate arcade, its your world.

Yeah, and they would reply me with "Yes, we're a bunch of lazyasses and just sticked two previews together and called it an in-depth comparison" :)

They would actually do that, they're quite self-critical in that respect, at least until not too long ago.

After playing the GT4 demo i actually decided to sell my XBOX (which i had kept mostly for Forza) knowing that the precious little time i have for games would never allow me anywhere enough time to get into GT4 AND Forza.

Not to mention WOW + GT4 + Forza :)

The money i got from the XBOX is going to the GT4 + Wheel + Nike Shoes (hahaha)

This months Edge scores:

Resident Evil 4 - 9
GT4 - 7
Mercenaries - 7
Darwinia - 7
GTR - 8
The Punisher - 5
Project: Snowblind - 7
The Settlers: Heritage of Kings - 5
DoA Ultimate - 7
Death by Degrees - 5
Samurai Western - 6
Nano Breaker - 5
It's Mr Pants - 5

Go figure... GT4 the same score as those other no-namers. Meh.
In the end the scores are all subjective. GT4 deserves a high score if only just for the size of the game and the effort that was put into it over 4 years and the freaky attention to detail. Stopping at "it's just GT3 but bigger and better" is a very limited view.

I don't have any view on GT4 myself, just posting the scores. Just in case you thought I was trying to agree with anyone in this thread :) (haven't even read the rest of the thread).

Hey, no worries, it was just a general thought :D

so no names do not warrant to be scored well because they do not have a big licence behind them ??

so true, And only the test of the review matters, but it is so much easy to argue about a 1-10 rating scale.

I disagree. I do not know how much GT4 deserves to be scored but the end result should not be scored on the basis of how much time it took to be made, the budget and human ressources it had

It is like to say that big hollywood movies are great movies just because a lot of money was spent.

From the feedback I got from the review, poor AI and unbalance (you either have the right car and you win from the start or you trail behind until you have enough money to buy a new car) were criticized.

Never said that.

I didn't say that, if you read my post i said

Never said it deserves and high score because of how long it was developed for or how much money it cost.

Explained.

Then that's fair enough. I'd love to see the magic aspects DOA:Ultimate has that puts it into the same level of GT4. Edge has always been very weird with their scores, and now that they're not even the same as they used to, i disregard their "reviews" even more. Not sure if you ever bought the magazine. I used to, before the entire staff got killed and replaced.

Poor AI, figures, i would love a hardcore AI, i'm just not sure it would be the same as other players want.

But the unbalanced part, mostly has it roots in how racing is, unless you drive exactly the same cars with the same specs and the same setup the "race" is unbalanced from the start.

From my experience you learn to balance the game yourself, first time you take out a new car on a new track your lap times will suck, after a few hundred laps you should be in shape :)

Needles to say, if you win a race on a new track with a new car you obviously have entered a race with an unfair advantage.

Ohh and just for fun i did 3 rounds on Laguna Seca in GT3, one in a fairly fast Nissan, a Mazda 787B and a Formula One car..

Some 20+ seconds between the fastests (59.5) and the slowest, gonna post a video of the 3 laps, and when i get GT4 i'm gonna do the same so that we can compare the "speed" on the games.

I read it mainly in 99/2000. i stopped because oversea shipping was sending the price to the sky. i liked the mag, even if I always thought they were too much thinking, the only good devs were either japaneses or britains, at least I got that feeling. Apart from this, I liked the mag, well written. They do not favor the same qualities in a game as the rest of the industry mags, that is clear.

Couple of quotes from the Edge review, they gave GT3 the same score IIRC, anyway the quotes.

Polphony head Kazunori Yamauchi's stated intention is not to produce the ultimate videogame about driving, but the ultimate real-world driving experience on video game hardware, and in this respect GT4 eclipses it's predecessors and it's competition with some ease.

There it is, Gran Turismo 4 is fundamentally unconcerned with furthering the art of the videogame. This titanic franchise, this critical, load-bearing pillar of the house of PlayStation, is barely even a videogame at all, it's a hobbyist software suite, a racetrack tutorial, an encyclopedia you can get in and drive off. Perhaps that makes it a fitting flagship for the company that coined the evasive term 'computer entertainment', but however you look at it, it's a labour of great love and erudition, and indispensable to those who care.

I can stand edge anymore. They are so full of themselves.

Anyway. The gt series has gotten old and its starting to look like an ea sport franchise.

I own gt1, 2 and 3 and thats enough for now.
