GPU Ray Tracing Performance Comparisons [2021-2022]

The 3080Ti is twice as fast as 6900XT in Blender, and over two times faster in D5 Render.

In Spider-Man's heavy RT scenes, @4K resolution, the 3080 is 65% faster than 6800XT using max RT settings, and 45% faster using medium RT settings.

Thanks, it is always great to see this kind of comparative data. Same behaviour were also exhibited in Metro Exodus EE where the gap between 6800xt and 3080 was lessened when you used RT Normal setting instead of RT High. NVIDIA's higher ray tracing firepower truly comes alive when you actually give something more complex! Those reflections are truly worth it: PS5 fallback High options look like cardboard reflections in certain cases. Very High geometry setting combined with Very High reflection resolution really brings a huge improvement, and NV cards handling it better is a good sign that NV Ray Tracing performance is not wasted in this game, and some of its potential is still being used that way.

Situations like these can skew the comparison and will create a situation where it seems like NV lost its ray tracing performance advantage, which is not truly the case, specifically with examples like this. Like in games where Far Cry 6, ray tracing is so basic that NV and AMD GPU performs similar to as how they would perform if the game had pure rasterization...

In the game Trail Out, using max ray tracing settings, the 3080Ti is 78% faster than 6900XT @4K, and 69% faster @2K.

Ray tracing scales with teraflops horsepower.. ampere is in a different league compared to rdna 2 when it comes to pushed rays 😏🏅

BTW - the PT Quake has 2 modes. One that adds in emissive lighting, the fog, all the neat stuff, and then another one that renders the original quake graphics (primary hit) with ray tracing. So you get the light maps, it is wicked cool.
The second mode also keeps things like water reflections/refraction and portals as well too.

Really incredible quality here.

Just played the Quake VKRT mod and 👀 🤯

3060ti at native 1080p ~70fps.

With FSR 2.0 balanced mode locked 144fps in what I've played so far and due to the nature of the graphics FSR looks amazing still.

There is some artefacts in the rendering, specular took a few frames to resolve in one place but overall it's pretty solid.

In path traced games: like Quake 2 RTX, the A770 is massively behind NVIDIA, to the point that it's more like an AMD GPU, as the 3060 is 70% faster than A770, and 80% faster than RX 6650XT.

Elsewhere, the A770 is 40% faster than the 3060 in Metro Exodus, Dying Light 2 and Hitman 3 (as expected), but less than 10% in Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo.
