Game graphics that surpassed Doom3?

And how do you expect graphics to push foward Chap? Without programmers like Carmack pushing our systems we woudln't see better graphics in quick time frames.

What i meant is that, D3 looks good, but im also seeing other games that look as good too. Maybe if D3 was release last year, it would have WOWZAWEE! but it was not... So i am not sure how much pushing Mr Carmack is doing.

I think the separating factor has to be the performance, if D3 does run as good as it looks, then of course Mr Carmack is great. :oops:
 
D3 will run like a dream on a Geforce 3 and above.

As for what the game looks like.. Chap you like graphics right? Well if you saw this game running on my pc 1600X1200 you would throw your xbox to the floor and have an orgasm in front of my PC.

Screenshots look like garbage for doom3, wait until you see this game's enviornments, they look like CG.
 
Doom 3 looks nice for sure but it's still just a corridor shooter with generic (yet well-accomplished) art. It's not the revolution some ppl make it out to be.

Wreckless is very good looking, yes, and it's especially impressive considering the performance and the fact that it's like 80% cut and paste sample code. :)

But I think Rogue Leader looks better overall.
 
The original topic of this thread was 'best looking game', not 'best graphics code'. In those terms, Wreckless reigns supreme. Of course, you have to beat all the missions on Hard with Heavy Traffic first. That's the only way you can unlock all the filters and the cinecam.
 
According to the topic title. It talks about graphics, which is a technical thing. Not art or the final visuals. So code and other techniques are important.
 
I WOULD post some screenshots from D3, however I don't want to get banned. As far as I know it's not legal to do so, especially since Carmack probably visits this website..

If I get the OK, I'll do it, otherwise....

Technologically speaking, there is nothing really special happening there. I think graphics advances are more important than art. That's really the only way one could being to really quantify and compare it to Doom III.

It has to be understood that esthetic arguements are consider the most or one of the most difficult in philosophy, I don't think this particular community is yet equiped to tackle those yet and we'd just end up with acrimonious discourse rather than anything constructive.

If it was some other game, I don't think so, but since its Star Wars, Yes :D KOTOR looks along the line of JK3.

From the recent scans, I think RS3 is the best looking upcoming Star Wars game so far. But I'll hold my judgement till I play them.
 
As i have the Doom 3 alpha i just felt i needed to comment on some of what is being said here.

Many of the characters of the game noticably do not feature as high polygon counts as some of its fps contenders (Unreal 2). The game really shines in the lighting and bump mapping catagories however.

-Doom 3 will run like a dream on Geforce 3
it runs generally around 30 - 60 fps leaning mostly toward 30 but often sinks below 30 on my friend's Geforce 3. This of course may change in the future.

PC Engine: You think RE4 will look better than Doom 3? From what i have seen i find that very very hard to believe. The flipper may be able to handle such effects but likely not on the same scale as to meet Doom 3's requires.

Does this mean Xbox won't have any problem running Doom 3 once it's been ported? I thought it ran slow even on a high-end PC with a P4 and Radeon 9700?
 
Yea well bbot you gotta remember, Xbox only has 64mb of ram and a processor that isn't meant for gaming. xbox will run the game decent with some compromise, coming from some of the textures and lighting im guessing.
 
The only thing Xbox version would need is very careful memory optimisations. Apparently the final PC version will run fine with all effects on a GF3 at 640x480.

bbot: You're thinking of the leaked alpha, which performs like crap on ANY system. :)
