Wow what a let down!
Nobody told me that. Besides, the contact page still mentions them by name, so what was I supposed to believe?Apart from the fact that Kristof and Marco are no longer part of the site
Perhaps that you do not appreciate being unwittingly made a method for dissimination of official propaganda to an equally unwitting public or somesuch. I'm sure that would work better than your idea, at least if you talked to the right person...what exactly would we say?
Just include an appropriately marked up sheet of your advertising rates and explain that advertising on this site isn't a free service.what exactly would we say?
I hate to break this to those who think otherwise, but having a "final dev kit" at this point is not much to brag about for Sony. They have much bigger worries from what I have heard.
From everything I have heard, I think if the situation were any different that Sony would delay until 2007, or at least launch only in Japan and push back the rest of the world's launches until 2007.
To enlighten those who don't know what goes on right before a console launches, it usually cuts it pretty close, but sometime before launch you have to find out if your game is actually going to run on the actual hardware (also known as, debug kit, the kind which are sent to press as well), and if you aren't able to find that out, people basically start freaking out or delaying games. Since Sony hasn't started manufacturing, you can safely assume they have not shipped a single debug unit to a developer, even first party.
There are certain logistics and factors and every day is pushing everything closer and closer to an impossibility. I don't think Sony has ever been under this kind of pressure before and it will be interesting to see how they perform under it. From the improvement Genji has seen it seems they are trying very hard on their own games, but it will be a miracle if more than 3 or 4 of them are ready by 2006.
Final dev kit is quieter, pretty PSP-ish UI, but still too many unanswered questions from a dev perspective. All experienced developers can tell at what point Sony is, and it's behind where Microsoft was before they were launching. They also know that Sony is staking their reputation when they say they will ship 6 M by EOCY, because if they don't they will pretty much screw themselves over in the eyes of every major publisher that is trying to get a game out on PS3 platform this year.
My point is that final dev kit may give some folks assurance that Sony is close to the finish line, but the truth is far from that, and you would be wise to keep your eyes on the fight which happens this fall (in the US, 360 versus PS3, in EU and Japan, PS3 versus Wii) because it will probably decide whether or not PS3 is a failure.
My opinion and personal speculation - Sony will release a PS3 without Blu Ray by end of 2007, for same price as whatever 360 is then. They will be getting their butts kicked that bad. They have left too many things wide open and ready to be expanded or pulled back, this is shown in many ways, lack of clarity in TRC would be one example of something fishy, but even just the simple menu interface displayed in the dev kit menu is also very telling of Sony's wait and see, pull back and re-engineer, respond to market demand strategy.
To be honest, the INQ statement was the least credible, but it's still hard to overlook the other statements out there. http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showpost.php?p=815700&postcount=107To refer back to previous discussion on secret functionality in PS3..

Would have been interesting to hear the exact words used by Sony's manager instead of the kid's intrerpretation. You know how these guys can use Clintonian evasiveness when they want or have to.[Sony's hardware production manager] CONFIRMED to Sonic151 (pictured wearing 0% interested t-shirt)...that the PS3 was not playable due to the upcoming Tokyo Games Show and rubbished reports that there is a hidden feature that nobody knows about.
Hahaha! That's a good one!Deano joins in the laughter, lowers his coffee onto his own PS3 coffee warmer and lifts the top of the PS3, “They continue to spout rubbish about things they can just not know. Care for another waffle?â€
LOL. An oversight on my part. I believe the European SKU will have the tea warmer as well as a crumpet toaster.Hahaha! That's a good one!
I sure hope the coffee warmer is tea compatible... I don't drink coffee.
Yeah "that rumour" comes from people not able to read manual.
And it´s been killed, burried and killed again a few times. Maybe rumours on the internet should just be called lies until they are confirmed.
But to specifically address my comments about 50 GB Blu-ray Discs on Friday, my information comes from multiple sources - some in key positions at some of the Blu-ray Disc supporting companies, some in other industry positions involved with either the testing or production discs in both high-def formats - speaking to me off the record. The problem is not with the discs per se, it's with the hardware. Samsung didn't have final product 50 GB movie discs to test their firmware with before they launched, so they're having problems getting the players working with these discs now. Sony and Pioneer are also working hard to resolve compatibility issues on their forthcoming hardware. I'm sure that all of these issues are fixable with firmware upgrades, and I have no doubt that the issues WILL be fixed. But up until a couple weeks ago, I was told that Samsung at least was STILL having problems
