Final Fantasy XII / FF12 revealed [!=56K]

Honestly... WHO CARES if the shadows are circles! I can understand making a big deal in a more 'atmospheric' game like Splinter Cell, but in an RPG like the FF series, you're going to be admiring what's above you more than sulking about what's below.

Well considering characters in the massively multiplayer FFXI cast shadows with rather humanoid forms, there's no excuse for a single player FF on the PS2 not to have them. I don't recall anyone saying it's a game-breaking feature, but it does make FFXII a little underwhelming visually.

How exactly do you know that Journey? You're judging from scans of an incomplete game that already isn't of the best quality. These may be early beta shots of the game just to show off some of the stuff. Until more is revealed about the game and more is shown as in clear pictures that are of a better resolution and in game footage maybe it can then be better judged what the shadows will be like.

Well, if they should improve the graphics over FF X/X-2, there are still much more to be improved other than shadows. To me, they would be the models (please make it close to SH3, ha ha! There won't be too much characters on screen most of the time), and the motion capture (don't you think the movement of the characters are not natural at all during the real time cut scenes ?).

But for sure even without them, I have still enjoyed both FF X and FF X-2.

2 more days till the 19th...

The topic of artists came up a few posts back. Who did the character designs for FF8? What is he/she doing noing now? Looking back, I find that I prefer FF8's character designs most. Not too outlandish, and thus quite believable(Don't need to put someone in a funny costume to make him/her a hero).

doesn't FFX-2 have "real" shadows???
Also, even FFX had "real" shadows in some instances, like when fighting against Seymur (the last time) and/or tidus' father (when he's a big f**kin giant. Also, shadows become real shadows whenever u summon thingy whats its name.... Anima...??? is that it?

not sure why they didnt just keep "real" shadows all the time, i guess it was their way to distinguish between instances with diffuse light and direct light.. also, turning the shadows from circle to "real" hard shadows adds to the dramatization quite a lot....

does anyone know what i'm talking about... i'm not exactly sure myself

From 'Magicbox' news:

- In an interview with the Final Fantasy XII developer Yasumi Matsuno, a few new tidbits are revealed about the game:

The game will be in 2 DVDs
Very little love elements in the game
The game style resembles Vagrant Story
Huge world map
Many people will be surprised: "Is this Final Fantasy?"
Tight controls

i bought Jak2 over the w/e.... it is by far the most impressive engine on PS2 (and the others, but i digress). question for the guys in-the-know...
how hard would it be for Square to "share technology" with Naughty Dog?

i mean, the Jak2 engine is something that left me gasping for air a few times already. it really is far above ANYTHING on ps2, be it characters, features, amount of geometry... the fact that it's such a good game is not technologically related so i'll leave voices, art and design aside for a moment, although they are amazing.

Me like those 2 points. :D Not sure about the Vagrant Story bit as I did not try that title. But still, keeping reservations until 19th.

60Hz and Progressive output on PAL version ? If so I will buy it together with EyeToy: Groove.

i must say, the tearing is quite evident while playing in pro-scan, and the game locked twice (thank god it auto-saves!!) while in pro-scan.

i ended up playing in interlaced at 60Hz. the IQ is so bloody good i cannot tell the difference from 6 feet away. and the tearing is almost invisible in interlaced mode, which is good...

PAL has pretty much everything u could hope 4, widescreen, pro-scan, 60Hz...

I just finished JakII on weekend, great game!
It's not so difficult as many reviews have told, a couple of missions are a bit annoying before you figure out the best tactics.
I do recommend you copy your game save just before the final boss, if you use up all your ammo for more powerful weapon during the final bosses final stage and die there, you'll have to cope with just one weapon's ammo. I finished it with that one weapon, but it would've been a pushover with a more powerful weapon.

Yes, Final Fantasy game with JakII engine would be amazing.
The engine has all that FF game needs; Long draw distance for beautiful vistas, tons of ppolygon pushing power for detailed architecture and characters, variable time of day and weather, great animation, lovely particles for summons....

I'm still waiting for an rpg/adventure game where you'd get that sense of travelling to unknown adventures and faraway places. For that you need an engine that is capable of big worlds with long draw distance and seamless loading. In adventure game I want to stand on top of a hill and look below to a town miles away where I can then ride with my valiant horse in real time through a forest and lake.

yes, and i think ND should use their engine for an RPG, a slow-ish game which lets u drool looking at the gorgeous graphics those people can push....

really, the amount of geometry this game is pushing around at any one time makes me wonder how much more can be visualised in a game, say in the next generation... not much more in my own opinion....

Excellent!!!

This game is getting better, and better, with stupendous char design, a world map, cool logo, and all these yrs of dev... it's already a must buy

Well, the 'World Map' could mean just about anything from FFX type 'Point and Teleport Map' to FFVII 'Travel Above The World Map'.

I'd hope they make the world this time more free and expansive and less linear and claustrophobic than in FFX.

Jeez.. what's with the slutty characters square? That miniskirt is less modest than a pair of skimpy panties.

IMO FF8's characters were all really stupid looking.

Except Zell, he had a cool shirt.

Edit: And I've always wanted an outfit like Rinoa's. ^^
