Final Fantasy XII / FF12 revealed [!=56K]

I hope it´s a new engine. Still, I´m a big fan of FF games, and I´m really looking forward to this one. People love to hate FF, and for some odd reason love the ancient and primitive FFVI over the new ones, so I never discuss anything FF related over the internet anymore.

To me they´re crazy, and more driven by nostalgia than anything else, but to each his own, I guess. :)

Hard to even get a true idea of the looks from their pics, so I'm'a wait for ACTUAL "revealing" information to hit the net before I say much of anything. I'll likely be a fan, though, as I'm very low-key and wide-ranging in my RPG habits, and don't have any overriding nostalgia impulse. (In fact I was just going to replay the first console RPG I ever played--Dragon Warrior--until I started and saw what the control scheme was like, and decided having to go through a menu for EVERY ACTION that should be automatic would just be too painful to bother.) I enjoy what the games offer in the way they offer them, and certainly have my preferences, but don't count that against games that don't precisely line up.

I'm holding judgment till I see more of the game as well.

I do really hope they got the animation fixed up for this one, FFX had pretty good graphics aside from the shimmering but the animation really detracted from it imo.

That scanned pic is authentic.

Here is a photo on the Weekly Jump I got today

I am not good in Japanese, from what I see, it is just a glimsp on FF12 which will be revealed on 19/Nov. It mentioned about Chocobo rider, the airship and battle with a big dragon.

Still unhappy. I've been developing this loathe for the "ridiculously adolescent love story" favoured by many J RPGs. And this one looks like its getting new high(low) scores in that category. o_O Kudos to Zenosaga, Summon Night, Growlanser, Phantom Brave, etc. from staying away from that.

However, it was brought up earlier that many characteristics may have become iconic for the FF series, and this is probably one of it. "We're doing something different this time, and players will be surprised". Wonder how much of that statement will be true when more is revealed. Anyway, this won't be the first time I consciously pass by a FF title.

I still have this crazy idea that SE are still sored with Jump over the DQ8 mess, and handed them bogus PR material with a cleverly worded agreement(to protect themselves from legalities) telling them "not before 19th November", just so to catch Jump with the pants down.

Getting too imaginative there. Probably not.

The girl and guy in the first pic have heads a lot like Dagger and Zidane's from FFIX.

Different designers though... IX's characters were designed by Yoshitaka Amano... XII's are designed by Akihiko Yoshida (Vagrant Story, FF Tactics. FFT Advance)...

FF12 artwork looking like a disgrace to teh excellent FFT/Vagrant... so far
Nomura femine art nfluence has run deep... :?

Doesn't look like Square have made much progress with the engine, as evidenced by the return of the dreaded "circle shadow". Not to be fastidious, but not even at high noon does my shadow look like a friggin manhole cover.

The lingering question on my mind is what happened to Hironobu Sakaguchi? Didn't he say he'd make a return to game directing, only to drop off the face of the earth. Anyone know if he took early retirement?

EDIT: Left out an E in retirEment

Hironobu Sakaguchi took the fall for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. You can sort of say he got pushed back in the company and is no longer in a major position of power. Of course I'm sure he has his hands in other Final Fantasy ventures, namely Advent Children and hopefully a sequel to the game?

When I first saw it, the characters look like a cross between Vagrant Story and FFT. Looks great IMO.

Care to elaborate? I'm also curious about this "femine" (feminine I presme) influence? Nomura's character work is generally considered more shonen. You must be confusing him with Nobuteru Yuuki... :p (now there's some shojo characters!)

I just hope it resembles to Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics, and not with Final Fantasy X...

What shadows???
I can't see any shadows in those tiny pictures, not circular or rectangular.
There's only one pic where theoretically you could see the shadows projected on the ground by a character, but even that pic is too messy to see anything such detail.
Anyway, even the 'dreaded circle shadow' would not be frightening enough for me to keep me from playing FFXII.

Here are some better scans with which to make out the circle shadows. Maybe I was a bit premature in saying XII's engine wasn't much of a departure from X's. Recent speculation has it that they've finally done away with battle loading screens, and the transition from map to battle is seamless; something they intended to do for FFX but didn't have time for. I'll reserve further judgement until the 19th.
