Final Fantasy VII Remake

It's interesting how so many games are moving towards Korean MMORPG combat. This reminds me so much of stuff that's been implemented in the Korean MMORPG space for the past 10-20 years.

SB
Eh. More like Korean combat is trying to ape Japanese action games like Capcom and platinum games

From the TGS show floor demo. Hope we' ll get an updated demo before the game releases.

Some infos and confirmations : from https://dengekionline.com/articles/202506/

- Quality mode and performance 60 confirmed.

- 150 GB for the game : 100 for the first disc/ 50 second disc.

- The world map is composed of many sections that are all linked together. West, East, North, South and the Ocean are all linked together.
There are large zones to explore but you will be able to roam freely in those area and the further you progress the more zone you will unlock.
In the second part of the game the player will be able to travel through the ocean. ( Those who play the OG FFVII know what kind of transportation I am talking about.

Nomura : the notion of "world map " implies that you could come and go at will freely wherever you want. But in the OG the world would subsequently unlock as you progress through the main story.
The degree of liberty got bigger the more you progressed. It will be the same for Rebirth.

- No loading time

- At the beginning of the game player can already choose to explore the game without focusing on the main quest.

- Cid and Vincent will have guest appearance in the game but not playable ( until the next game)

- Most of the Gold Saucer mini-games are confirmed ( snowbarding, submarines ) But some of them will appear only in Part 3 because some of the events and locations will appear differently and in a different order than the OG.

- There will be new mini-games and some with puzzles.

- ALl types of chocobos are available with some crafting and different skins and customisations.

- According to IGN Zack will be present and will have a dedicated chapter. Nomura hiinted that Cloud and his compagnons will follow the main story where Zack will have his own new story.

- You will be able to swim in the game as a character or with a chocobo.

- The game will feature twice the dialogue lines than Remake.

Edit : new gameplay footage and hands-on preview videos.

in fact the story is much more developped and even changed in some aspects, it's like the original FFVII is LotR movies, and Remake is the books.
playtime is around the same for part one (30hours without 100% completion) as the original FFVII.

This is crazy to me. So you have to buy 3 games to get the content of the original game ?
Nothing crazy. The production values of the game are shot over the roof and the parts expanded and better executed. Trying to capture the depth of the story and world of the 1996 release in one game wouldn't do it justice for the fans by today's expectations. In fact Square Enix when was questioned since the PS3 days about the possibility of a remake they said that, the scope of the game would have been so great by modern standards, that they wouldnt be able to contain it in one game. Also they weren't happy with the technology of the time. Fast forward and the game is indeed a multi part release expanding to 2 hardware generations later.

The original is massive for its time and at the same time a broken experience if you play it now

Yup, 3 games and you get areas and story that has similarities to the original game.
And Rebirth is two BR 100 disc...
I wonder how much of it is just for the lightmaps.
Large scenes and at least some instances baking direct light must require huge lightmaps.

I'm quessing they didn't change their lighting methods..

To be fair, given the first episode only covers like 15% of the story, I still feel they're gonna have to cut a decent amount of content from the original. Also, the original game also had insane production values for the time...

That said, I'm eating crow a bit in terms of how they're handling the second episode. I really expected they'd continue on with a more linear sort of level design instead of giving you a bunch of freedom like in the original. It still probably wont be quite like that, but you only have limited real freedom in this part of the main game anyways. Plus a lot of the Gold Saucer stuff that I was not at all expecting to be in and all.

Still, I dont think there's any way they can wrap up the whole game and include all the side content and everything with just one more game after this without cutting a fair bit of stuff. It's just soooo much to do when they're aiming for these kinds of presentation levels and detail with everything.

I look forward to playing the whole thing in like 2030 when it's finally complete and released as a full package. This was my plan originally, and having played Mass Effect Legendary Edition recently as one full experience and loving it way more than playing them separately, I feel vindicated this is the way to go. I am very patient!

How much of the content in the remakes is quality as opposed to filler, side quest bloat?
Well there's only the first episode so far, but a common complaint I've seen was that the first episode felt fairly padded out. They were trying to take what was only like 7 hours of game in the original and turn it into a 40-50 hour experience to justify it being a 'full game'.

But this wouldn't be sustainable for the rest of the remake episodes, otherwise it'd be like a 300 hour game.
