Ffvii Remake: Rm Egm

According to the august egm's rumor mill, the rumor guy's got it from good authority that are remake for ps3 is in the works.(assuming I was not sleep-deprived enough to misread it.).

So together with the recent showing in japan, I'm almost 99% sure that'd my dream's come true!!!

Offical word is still that there is no FFVII remake in the works, at the moment, and that it's just a technology demo.

But yeah, considering the massive appeal FFVII still has, Square-Enix would be foolish not to do a remake.

I hope there never will be such a remake. Itisi bad enough that we get sequels all the time, but a remake of FF7 might lead to alot remakes. (There is a MGS 1 remake already)

I want new original games and no remakes of old franchaises. A FF7 remake would probably only make me realise that on todays standards FF7 isn´t that great (even with better gfx).
Imo such a remake would only open a door, better left shut.

And next we would get a FF6 remake, a chrono trigger remake, a super mario land remake, a streets of rage remake, a monkey island remake, a pong remake, galaxy invaders remake.

It´s not old games (with old gameplay) with new gfx that I want. Reminds me of those Dune 2 remakes. What a dissapointment !

I see what you're saying DotProduct, but I can't help but be intrigued by the idea of an FFVI and Chrono Trigger remake as well. ;) I agree ti can never be the same, but certainly the logic that applies to movie remakes applies here as well. (whether one considers movie remakes to be a good or bad thing though I guess is a different issue entirely)

why don't they just make another game AS GOOD as FF3?

Jeez it's not like the game was all that complicated or overly big, just lose the ridiculous storylines that make no sense, the dialogue that drags on and on, and all the other stuff that has taken the series downhill...

get back to creating a fun world to explore, challenging with a cool story and some innovation...bum rush anyone?? It seems like when the series went 3d it lost alot, the feel was totally different and the story's much more convoluted(ffX was not bad)...but they need to get back to the roots.

chrono-trigger remake...damn that would be pretty cool, what about some secret of mana action??

it seems like they were able to just pump out quality RPG's back in the SNES days, why not not anymore?

Probably because the whole gfx of an snes rpg would be 2 or 3 man years work, today. A typical Snes RPG city is probalby done in a week or two (+polish) with a team of 4 people.

I mean gameplay wise the console-RPGs haven´t got more complex, but gfx is a huge and expensive issue these days.

Probalby 80++% of the work on a modern FF goes into gfx/cgi/atwork/grafik engine.

Just look at the chrono trigger sprite and compare it to Tidus (+facial animations - cutscenes, cgi scenes...)

Imo this is the result of what is sometimes called "movie envy". Actually those people want to make movies, but they ended up making games, which in fact nearly are movies.

FF8++ really lack on gameplay (imo) and should have been movies and not games.

As far as I remember the first 2 hours of FF10 were actually a nearly nonstop movie with nearly no interactivity at all (Sometimes you had to go from a to b - and some short/easy bossfights).

While I understand why a FFVII remake may be undesireable, I think it's OK as long as it's FFVII. Cosidering there's Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Derge of Cerberus a FFVII remake might be warrented to tie in with the rest of the games that fan out the universe. I can imagine there are actually a good number of people who will be buying these games that have never played FFVII. There's justification in all the spin-offs to have a remake... now with a game like Chrono Trigger... there's no connection to the present state of things or past problems (think how unfinished Xenogears was and so we now have Xenosaga) that warrants a remake. It just fits for FFVII this time around.

By the by, there was a remake of Pong for the PS1.

Well everything else aside, obviously a FFVII remake would sell in the millions - it goes without saying. Whether it should be done or not is a debate to be had based on different criteria.

For remakes I believe they should skip at least 1 full generation and hopefully really 2 . So games on the psone shouldn't be remade till the ps4 in my opinon . That would give you a good 10 years or so with out playing them .

Yea they could enjoy it . Personaly I thought the game sucked and the seires went downhill after 6 . But perhaps its time for it to be ready .

Given the kind of treatment Square has been giving to the FFVII franchise, I think it´d be very likely to see the main event again on PS3.

Seems to me that Square has some sort of intention on keeping the FFVII ongoing. I still have no clue what Crisis Core is about and from all the rumors say it is supposed to be the aftermath of FFVII. It'll be interesting to see this unfold in the coming months/years.

duh..here I though we were talking about FF 3(6) not 7, i always get coinfused with the japanese numbering....

IMO FF3 was by far the best title in the series, the thought of them remaking 7....ugh...why? they can do so much better, 7 was not nearly as good as 6, and they only got worse from that point on...

Well, 7's their all time best-seller I believe (for FF's) and it's also the base story for all the various FF VII based games we're seeing come out on PSP and elsewhere. So clearly the game/story is prominent in the minds of Square execs. ;)

PS - I also think 3/6 was better, but I have to admit that VII brought the series mass appeal in a way that the 'old-school' titles never did.

getting a little off topic i think the problem with 7 and onwards is that they became more of a movie than a game .
