FFCC Japanese trailer, tell me what you think?

DON'T give me those rolleyes, London.

I don't give a flying fart if FFX is on PS2 or GC or Vectrex, it's a piece of shit game no matter which hardware runs it (though it would be kinda impressive if a Vectrex could do it, hee hee...)

If I wanted to play blitz ball I'd bought a motherfreakin EA Sports game okay? Is it TOO MUCH TO ASK to be allowed to make a decision of my own every once in a while in a roleplaying game these days, do I absolutely HAVE to follow a badly written script EVERY SINGLE SECOND???

Maybe I didn't WANT to go play blitzball, maybe I was sick and tired of it?

If I want an experience where characters do stuff in a set order that I have no control over whatsoever I go read a book. Even a bad fantasy novel has a better plot than FFX (chocobo engines... Stupidest thing ever!)

*G*

PS: The movie was very blocky and dark, and it showed nothing of the gameplay. Might be a good game, or it might be a really boring one. It's got nice water though, that much I can say. Does DOOM3 have water in it?

Wow, don't think I've ever seen anyone take personal offence to a game before. What'd Square do? Rape your child and kill your wife?

I think, "I don't like this game, linear stuff doesn't do it for me" would have sufficed heh.

That would be pretty comical. =)

Well, consider that Blitzball is different from any sport game EA offers?

Also consider that most people would very strongly disagree about your "Badly written script" comment. FFX's script and accompanying voice acting are excellent.

Maybe I didn't WANT to go play blitzball, maybe I was sick and tired of it?

Fair enough, but if you were sick and tired of it, that must mean you played it a lot... which implies that you did at some point like it?

If I want an experience where characters do stuff in a set order that I have no control over whatsoever I go read a book. Even a bad fantasy novel has a better plot than FFX (chocobo engines... Stupidest thing ever!)

FFX's plot is absolutely incredible IMO. How far did you get in the game? I had my friend Rich explain the latter 3/4 of the game to me (heh, I don't own a PS2 or have truly regular access to one, so it'll be a LONG time before I get to play through FFX). I've never done that before... I was that curious as to how it finishes. I had to know.

And actually... chocobo engines make a lot of sense. No wasteful pollution (manure can be used as fertiliser, etc), and runs fast, and besides that Chocobos are soooooo cute! ^_^

i hated Bliztball as well.... well big deal, i played those 5 minutes u are forced to play in the game and never went back to it.... Blitzball is there for u to play IF U WANT TO... if u hate it that much, then leave it, u are not required to play though it more than a brief moment... u are required if you want to get Wakka's secret stuff, but i left it cuz i just could not get into the game... BIG DEAL... i just focused on my fav characters who were Tidus, Yuna and Auron, and once u get to a certain level u can really have fun fighting those impossible creatures from the monster arena...
i only stopped playing it after being like 180 hours into the game, and thats only because new games came out and got my attention... at 180 hours i still havent got all the secrets, nor all the monsters in the Monsters arena....

did u even find the monsters arena, Grall? how about the secret Aeons? how about the secret locations with the Airship? cuz after u get that, u can do pretty much whatever u want with the game, the linearity issue goes to hell...

if u just dont like the game, why screaming about it? gosh, just return it and get another one...

While I didn't actually play through FFX, I watched my brother play through it, and my honest opinion is that the older FF games were better. To me I rank FF6 as best, then FF7. All of my friends agree.

YEAH i agree, even though i put ff7 on top, but still, FFX is far from being the POS some people make it out to be, in fact it's one of the best RPG's this generation...

I agree, I would rank the FF like that, but they are still far down in my Adventure/CRPG ranking chart :)

Grandia 2 is on top atm.

Boy this has gotten off topic, but I'll bite!

IV, X, VII, VI, V, VIII, IX.

(4, 10, 7, 6, 5, 8, 9 for those of you not roman numeral inclined!)

Still haven't played 1/2/3, but from what I understand they have next to no story, so there isn't much of a draw there :?

For those of you that enjoyed 4 and 6, I suggest you replay them either from the translated FF IV hard type patch script, or on FF Chronicles/Anthology, you'd be surprised just how much Nintendo censored. ALOT of the deeper and darker issues such as Celes' contemplated suicide, Kain's lust for Rosa/betrayal/guilt, etc were very watered down on SNES.

True. But it IS also partly Ted Woolsey's fault, in the case of FF6. AFAIR Nintendo actually didn't do much censoring on that one.

And FF4 being dumbed down to incredibly pathetic proportions was Square's fault above anything else, as they still saw the American market as unable to appreciate the more sophisticated matters, and not skilled enough to handle the 'full game' (FF4 Easytype was released in Japan first, I know, but the US version is even easier than Easytype =) )

My rankings...

7, 5, 6, 9, 4, 10, 3, 1, 8, 2.

Though the top 7 are nearly equal IMO... the bottom 3 I really didn't enjoy much overall.

I managed to get to the Blitzball tournament in FFX, and I persevered that far only because Tidus is bloody cute (IMHO, that is, though the voice acting with all his inane giggles and stupid grunts and bad lipsynch nearly drove me crazy).

Lip synch overall is atrocious, and the dialogue just plain...SUCK...most of the time. Sorry, but I just can't agree on the plot being as great as you say unless the story picks up like 4000% or something after the stupid tournament is over. It feels like all the concepts they go over in FFX have already been DONE AT LEAST ONCE in previous FF games! I also don't like the technology in the recent FF titles. Gimme old-fashioned white + black magic with PURE magic-users, ninjas that throw things and melee fighters of old. This jack-of-all-trades BS in recent games where all chars have magic attacks suck big smelly donkey balls.

The equipment system in FFX is also awful btw, and only 3 ppl in battle at once was maybe understandable on the PS with its limited poly performance in early-generation games, but not on PS2.

I better stop now cuz there's too much to whine about, I'd be here all night, hehe...

Zur:

I'd gladly play the FF Anthology to re-live the golden oldies, but I'm not sure that was ever released in Europe... Does anyone know?

I didn't play the NES games and didn't get far in FFV (SNES emulators weren't very good at that point in time), so I say 4, 6, 7, 8, X. (good ---> bad)

Yes! Tidus is a real cutie isn't he? :D

And why complain about the lip-sync? Do you ever watch Anime? It's the same issue - it would have been quite simply WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to re-do the lip movements for the English language.

Actually... yes, the story does pick up massively after the Blitzball Tournament. You meet back up with Auron... and stuff actually starts to get explained. You picked exactly the wrong time to stop... seriously. =)

Then, also, early on in FFX... I don't know if you noticed or not, but early on, the character differences are very noticeable. Yuna is your only White Mage and Summoner, Lulu is your only Black Mage, Wakka is quick and has a Long Range attack ("Ninja", so to speak), Auron is your basic Badass Muscleman, Tidus is a tremendous Support character, Rikku (you get her pretty late) is a Thief and general weirdo (item user).

The only "Jack of all Trades" in the game, early on, is Kimahri. He doesn't excel in any one area incredibly much (well, OK, so his strength rivals Auron's early on, but still...), and once you get Lock Spheres, he can go down any one character's path on the Grid.

Now, late in the game, OTOH... you can make everyone a JOAT, if you want to, by moving them across the entire 898-sphere Grid, but that takes a very, very long time.

The equipment system in FFX is also awful btw, and only 3 ppl in battle at once was maybe understandable on the PS with its limited poly performance in early-generation games, but not on PS2.

Uhm. The 3 people in battle at once thing adds strategy to fighting. Everyone has their specific uses in fights - Lulu for attack magic, Yuna for healing magic, Tidus for support, Wakka for flyers, Auron for highly defensive enemies, Kimahri just cos he's cool looking, and Rikku because she can steal stuff.

And the equipment system is lame initially, but really takes off once you have Rikku. She can use special items (most of which you steal) to add special stats to items with open ability slots (you probably noticed the Brother's Sword has four blank slots and thought WTF?), likewise to Armour.

I better stop now cuz there's too much to whine about, I'd be here all night, hehe...

Most of your whining (characters are JOAT's, equipment system sucks, should have more characters in battle...) are just because you haven't been paying attention. I don't think you ever wanted to like the game, you probably went in wanting to find as many faults as possible (because you know.. FINAL FANTASY SUX0RZ).

I didn't play the NES games and didn't get far in FFV (SNES emulators weren't very good at that point in time), so I say 4, 6, 7, 8, X. (good ---> bad)

Erm... as of before FFV was fully translated, ZSNES could already display the entire game with no graphical or aural hitches. You probably didn't have the versions from within ~4 months of your trying to play it.

You didn't even get AURON?? He's easily one of the best parts of the game!

Well, it may be hard to swallow, but FF X doesn't really kick into highgear until 7-8 hours in (about an hour or two after the Blitzball tournament). I'll concede its fault of a slow rev up, but the game is 40 hours bare minimum to clear.

IMO, it had an excellent plot/story/voice acting, but loses points for its rush-out-the-door-for-Xmas lip syncing, quirky battle system (swapping party members is cool, but do you ever need anyone BUT Yuna/Tidus/Auron?? [Lulu makes the occasional cameo for Demi :p]), and questionable LOD model system.

Heh actually what I'd like to see in FF XII is a handful of different battle themes that rotate randomly, cause my roommies at school HATED hearing the FF X theme over and over and over and over :p Tone down the random encounters too please! Seemed like they upped them dramatically in FF X to me :?

BUT overall, the voice acting/story/presentation (barring the lip syncing :p) left me with the feeling that it was one of the greatest examples of electronic entertainment yet.

See, Grall? We both agree that getting Auron = Massive pick-up for the storyline.

Wakka comes in mega-handy early on with his Darkness-inducing attacks, and the fact that he doesn't lose 99% of his accuracy against flyers =) And Kimahri is almost as strong as Auron early on, plus moving Kimahri up Tidus's path... hehehe... Tidus/Kimahri/Auron, with K and T using Cheer every turn. Evil. =)

Actually FFX has a lower encounter rate than previous games, for the most part... though yes, FFX's battle theme is a little on the obnoxious side. FF9's was much better, more muted, and much more pleasant.

In response to the topic question: I saw the trailer last week, and it looks awesome. This game is going to be mine.. ;)

Heh I actually put Kimahri on Rikkus path (she was USELESS). Basically gave him mug, and had him make guest appearances to steal stuff :p I always gave the Flyer's to Lulu, Wakka was just... bleh. But really, about half way through the game, unless you make an effort to use everyone, Auron/Tidus/Yuna are sooooooo far ahead of everyone. Well, Yuna is by and large fairly useless 90% of the time, so I had to bring her in to hit something once just so she'd get exp :?

As for the random encounters, I'd wager money that they're higher in FF:X. Like atleast a battle every 3.5 seconds or so. It wasn't such a big deal in the PSOne games since the.. 'maps'/'screens' were fairly small, but some areas in FF:X are HUGE. Definitely definitely much more irritating than any other game in this regard.

I'd also like Squenix to atleast add a difficulty level. The games have been pathetically easy since FF:V. 90% of the random encounters in FF:X could be won by holding down X :? Like would it really be that hard to just make every mob your_level+10? I miss the frantic boss fights of the Dark Elf (IV, ugh such a bitch), Ryuu Dragon (V - wow), or even the end game kickers like Zeromus/ExDeath ( ). The, well, won't spoil it, 'FinalAeon' in FF:X was actually hard as hell at the 40 hour playtime mark. Came back at the 50 hour mark with Tidus/Auron/Yuna's Ultimate Weapons and killed him in 2 hits :?

Ok that was offtopic

Grall: To be completely objectively honest, you totally picked the wrong time to stop playing, absolute worst. However, it seems you've made up your mind about the game, and I doubt anything will change that :? Just know that, well, none of your conclusions are valid in any shape or form, unless prefixed with "for the first 6 hours of FF:X..." :p

I disagree. Without Rikku, imbuing weapons and armour would be impossible. Granted, she isn't a fighter at all, but she's a utility character. You NEED to steal things in order to get new abilities on weapons/armour.

They may be huge, but it seemed like I had to move a lot farther before getting into a fight.

Actually, TBH, it's probably more like exactly the same on average.

FinalAeon (heh) was hard when you let it be hard, but you really expected it to stay hard after twinking out your characters? Gimme a break.

The your_level+10 thing was tried by FF8, to an extent (actually it was more like your_level)... but it actually wound up making things much easier IMO, because once you start twinking out your characters, NOTHING can stop you. Oh, and bosses have a maximum level in FF8... which is really depressing.

And you thought ExDeath was hard? Aw, c'mon... GP Toss, cutie! ^_^

Which is why I used Kimhari for mugging/stealing ;)

Heh GP Toss aside, Zeromus/ExDeath could smack you alround silly even at level 80-90+, with the best weapons, etc. The ATB system gets mucho credit here for keeping these battles IMMENSELY fast paced (ie: Virus-All / Big Bang / Cure 4 / Life 2 Rydia / Bahamut / Big Bang / Flare / Life 2 Rydia / Big Bang / [Virus kills off Rosa] / FUCKKKKKK~!K~K~@~)

Hell I even got my Rydia Meteo (very high level), and Zeromus could still whipe out your party if you made a single mistake.

Case in point, power leveling up your characters / getting their ultimate weapons doesn't necessarily mean You Win, should the opposing bosses still be programmed to be HARD :p ( @ Kefka, Sephiroth, stupid Witch chick , etc). In V, even with all 4 guys at super high level w/X-Magic, Mimic, etc ExDeath will Fuck You Up fast (not to mention the Omega Weapon, dear god). I don't know if the mobs/bosses in FF IV/V gained levels with your characters, but they never ceased to put up a chellenge, regardless of how Uber your party was.

I understand the need to appeal to the mass market by removing certain barriers (ie: difficulty), but atleast give us Final Fantasy Vetrans a choice :?

*wonders what Archie thought of his game (FF:X)* Hated it after working on the fucker for 3 years?

FFCC looks fun to me, but I've to wait and play it for myself. Since Legend of Mana, I don't trust Square with another Action RPG.

Didn't know anyone else like FF5. I like FF5 more than 4,6. I think I still have the SFamicom catridge along with SMW, as my most played games during SFamicom days.
