April 14, 2004 - In a conversation with IGNcube today, Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht said the company would not develop any more titles for Nintendo's GameCube console. The studio is currently creating software for other platforms.

Eggebrecht would not say what titles were in development at Factor 5 nor would he talk specifically about what platform they might appear on. However, at the Game Developers Conference 2004 Eggebrecht was spotlighted as one of the studio heads very keen on Sony PSP development.
The Factor 5 president told IGNcube that no software from the San Rafael-based software house would be previewed at the forthcoming Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004, which kicks off this May in Los Angeles.

Various thirds party, Silicon Knights, Namco "RPGs" (tales of , baten kaitos) , Capcom's "FIVE" (OK Resident evil 4's exclu is stills on), now Factor 5...
So what next? Retro studio*

*(i know it belongs to nintendo ;) )

Well....maybe they're developing for nintendo's next system?

Ok, so what does nintendo have left now besides their own stuff? Nintendo no longer seems to fit the role of a console manfactuer and are truly on their own now.

Erm what exactly is that supposed to mean? I see no announcement of Namco or Capcom not making games for GC anymore...

P.S. I suppose Factor 5 doesn't have such a vested interest in GC as certain people always claimed they had.

Factor 5 needs to make money too, I don't think rebel strike sold so well.

And several 3rd parties have already left gamecube, SK has left, not sure about namco's rpgs(maybe not exclusive? not coming to US? not all that good?), most of the capcom 5 is lame or dead(pn 03 was lame, and 2 others are dead, and I don't think vj was a hot seller), and factor 5 has now left.

Well, there's still geist, pikmin 2, and metroid prime 2 coming out for gamecube...oh and resident evil 4.

Sorry, my bad, i thought everybody would understand what i was insinuating. So , i'll make my self clear , Namco's RPG , annouced as exclusive to GC, are now shipping to the PS2 (They were meant to be gamecube only....until the sales charts had the last word);
The Sudio 4's Capcom 5" (viewtiful joe, P.N..0.3, Killer 7, RE 4, Dead Phoenix) are almost all being port to PS2, for the reason (pretext?) that GC's owners don't like "mature titles" link

So all in all ,that doesn't sound good for nintendo's third and second party (potentials) titles.

Well I guess the cube looses another company making what some people claimed as "mature games". This along with SK leaving sucks.

This is what I was saying was going to happen as the development community was starting to get cold on the gamecube over the course of the last year. All that talk nintendo gave about being more friendly to third parties simply wasn't true. Another hint that things aren't going well is that Nintendo isn't accepting any new registered developers.

btw, retro studios is 100% owned by nintendo. They picked them up cheap before the office was about to implode. Since then they have been stable.

Well, it seems like I wasn´t the only one having a bad week, heh. Aside from being one of the developers that "rounded up" GCN´s lineup with mature titles, they have only released two games this gen (and both were quite similar), so it´s not that bad.

According to Eggebrecht, the only reason Factor 5 has stopped making GameCube games was that they've abandoned current-generation hardware altogether. "It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development," he said.

From Gamespot.

It makes perfect sense, since Factor5 was one of the first teams to receive GC hardware. AFAIK they were even involved in the platform design ... at least as consultant. I doubt, that Factor5 and Nintendo will part anytime soon.

Well, the los of Factor5 as a 3rd party for Nintendo in the current generation doesn't seem to be a big problem. If Factor5 are indeed working on next gen hardware and will still remain exclusive to Nintendo then it can't be seen as a bad thing. It just means they are developing a new playable tech demo for the N5.

If they are working on other platforms then it is also no big deal. There really isn't anything they can offer Sony or Microsoft in the way of good games go. I have been put off by Rebel Strike and really hope Factor5 focus more on gameplay in their next game.

If F5 continues to develop for Nintendo (and it seems they haven't actually said they wouldn't), I sure as f**k hope it won't be another Rogue Squadron title, coz that Rogue Squadron sh!t sucks.

Time to finally go make that long lost Turrican title (and yeah yeah, I know it won't be called that). Show they can develop something REAL this time instead of recycling a tired old formula.

Sorry Guden, but I can't help but think that this statement:

contradicts this one:

  ;)

I've enjoyed RS2:RL and RS3:RS a lot, we are still playing the co-op and vs modes of RS3. In fact RS2/3 restored my interest in the whole Star Wars thing again. Art direction, sounds ... it's a amazing, what Factor5 was able to squeeze out of Star Wars. IMHO foot action was ok, else the gameplay was mighty fine.

"Is" (singular). Baten Kaitos is still only for Cube.

"All" is a gross overstatement. One out of four titles (one was cancelled) has been confirmed for PS2, one is rumored as coming to PS2 and two will stay exclusive. And the reason why K7 is being ported is not because GC owners don't like mature titles but because it's a niche title on a system with a small userbase.
