can you even get F1 in the States without paying for some crazy premium F1 channel at a cost of $21.67 a month?

Agreed - he is probably feeling that this must be the year in which he "makes" it, otherwise it will slip from his grasp for good.

Anyway, I'll be up at 2 AM on Sunday morning to wtach it!
Me too 8) Although this will require much grovelling and being nicey-nicey to the other half...

2 extra races this year too and a double helping of qualifying in one session...
Good to see Auto gearbox and Launch control out too.

It has to be Montoya... Williams is letting him go after this season. No sign could be clearer. 8)

I didn't say I'd like him to take it, I don't actually. 8) I just said the signs are there larger than billboards, look at Damon, JV, Nige... :)

Hey... you remind me to check the schedule of Star Sports... there were some rumors about the broadcasting right. Fortunately, things don't change this year :)

What do you get for a $21.67 per month fee? The cable TV fee in Taiwan is at the neighborhood of US$16 ~ US$17 per month.

I like the new qualify session regulation. I recorded every F1 racing (including qualify) and the "new qualify sessions" last year made me crazy...

Montoya may be great, but Williams doesn't stand a chance. They lack full, 100% manufacturer backing. I doubt that: 1)BMW really redesigned their engine (suposed to last full weekend) and 2)they funded in any other way Williams. With recent funding cut-backs I see Williams running out of steam (and funding) mid year. Mclaren screwed up their car (again!!!!!!!!!!), Renault the same with their engine, so I expect better showing from BAR and Jaguar. At least they have a package.

All things considered, Schumi all the way!

schumi all the way baby 8)

I get it live on tele every week its on.. only prob is I have to wake up damn early on many weekends :(

but still.. lovely... can't wait for the season to kickoff :)

Renault can cut either way, IF their new engine packs as much punch as the others AND they have the suspension advantage they had last year, they can be quite the threat, at least for race-wins. They were as much as 100bhp down on power at times last year and still got a win, remember.

The one with the most pre-season hype this year is BAR, for sure. They have been doing spectacularily well on pre-season testing, but test results is only indicative at best, you never really know for sure. But they could finally be on the move to some success.

McLaren seems like they're totally out to sea. But who knows? Maybe they're sandbagging? They can't be THIS bad, can they?

The real battle will be with the tyres, though. At least this early in the season.

Schumacher fastest in opening practice
Australian GP - 1st Free Practice

Six-times world drivers' champion Michael Schumacher was fastest in opening practice Friday for the season-opening Australian Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday.

Schumacher led a Ferrari sweep of the top two fastest times in the first one-hour session around the 5.303 kilometre (3.295 mile) Albert Park street circuit. The 35-year-old German ace had a fastest lap of one minute 25.127 seconds - 0.234sec ahead of Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello (1:25.361).

Renault driver Jarno Trulli was next quickest in 1:27.025, some 1.898sec behind Schumacher. Last year's race winner David Coulthard in a McLaren was fourth best in 1:27.264 ahead of Renault's Fernando Alonso (1:27.359) and Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya (1:27.462).

The teams have another one-hour practice session later Friday.

Schumacher fastest as Ferrari outshine rivals - Australian GP - 2nd Free Practice

Six-times world drivers' champion Michael Schumacher blew away his rivals in Friday's opening practice for the season-opening Australian Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday.

Schumacher led a Ferrari sweep of the top two fastest times after two one-hour sessions around the 5.303 kilometre (3.295 mile) Albert Park street circuit in fine conditions. The 35-year-old German ace dominated the day with his own lap record of one minute 24.718 seconds -- 0.108sec ahead of Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello (1:24.826) of Brazil.

Schumacher had a few anxious moments along the way with his Ferrari car spearing wide out of Turn 16 into the home straight and ploughing across a grass verge before cruising back into the pits. There was some debris off the car with some grass trapped in the bodywork and the left-hand bargeboard was missing.

Ferrari clearly won the opening exchanges ahead of Sunday's race and were just over a second quicker than their nearest rivals, the Renault of Italian Jarno Trulli. Trulli clocked the third-best time of 1:25.757, but it was 1.039sec slower than Schumacher's best.

Briton Jenson Button, in a BAR-Honda, registered an encouraging fourth-best lap time of 1:25.786. Spaniard Fernando Alonso, claimed by some to be a future replacement in the champion Ferrari team for 35-year-old Schumacher, recorded the fifth- best time of 1:25.853.

The Williams-BMW pair of Ralf Schumacher (1:25.882) and Juan Pablo Montoya (1:26.206) were sixth and seventh respectively, but the McLarens were not prominent in the two practice sessions. Last year's race winner David Coulthard was McLaren's best performer with 1:26.215, but that was almost 1.5sec down on Schumacher's time. Coulthard's teammate, Finland's Kimi Raikkonen, just two points behind Schumacher in last year's F1 championship, struggled with the 10th best time in practice of 1:26.579.

Australia's lone hope of success in its home GP, Jaguar's Mark Webber, clocked the ninth best lap time in practice of 1:26.312.

No there are no F1 level tracks in India but serious talks are going on between FIA and some state governments and I am hopefull that we will host F1 race in next few years also I heard that some European GPs are under threat due to some anti-smocking laws...?

I wonder where they would put it though... Goa perhaps? bangalore?

Ah, easy victory to Räikkönen.

Though I haven't been following the "F1-scene" at all so I'm not sure how everyone has been doing in the pracs. Is there btw. any dramatic changes to rules this year?
