I don't see that working for PvP games I would enjoy. Even current games have enough problems with network latency.
Yes I think you’d be right for games like that. But they also don’t require powerhouse computers to run. I mean, people reduce graphic options all the way to 0, gamma to max just to get performance and sight advantages, there’s not really a use case on cloud for PvP, though with cloud if the games are being played from within the same region of xcloud, you should gain some latency there while losing the latency for the actual service.

While i agree with the sentiment, the truth is publishers and developers dont give a toss
Well yea, they won’t care, the consumers will I think. No one wants to buy a game and not be able to play it after a certain period of time. The idea of a permanent collection somehow needs to sustain. That’s a cloud problem that needs to be solved.

If they follow the route of how steam and GeForce now do it, I think they will be okay. Just start archiving games in permanent storage and boot up an instance and copy it over when required.

Amazon Luna is starting to be more of a hybrid of GamePass and Geforce Now. You can either subscribe to Luna or if you are a Prime member and have a Ubisoft account you can link your Prime and Ubisoft accounts and play some of your purchased Ubisoft games through Luna. I'm hoping that Amazon look at opening that up to Epic Games Store as well, since I have a ton of games on EGS that I would like to try.

On the subject of Cloud Gaming I keep seeing people on the web saying that if Microsoft drop out of making consoles, that Sony would have a monopoly and the raise console prices to $800 and games to $80 or $100 a game. Well I'm sure that MS is banking on that happening since they can then start pushing Xcloud as an alternative for parents unwilling to part with over $1000 to buy a kid a console. People are already struggling to buy $500 consoles and $70 games, Sony would be foolish to try that and I imagine that would hasten the end of home consoles much more quickly.
I don’t think Sony will do it on purpose. It’s not like they push each other to drop their prices further. The realities is that console gaming, or rather performance hardware is just getting so expensive. For a reasonable uplift in silicon performance is going to require more and more quality silicon and cooling.

You can only go wider or faster or both, and both of these have large cost implications for the consumer. The next console will need bespoke hardware accelerators to keep costs down. But the idea that they will have ML models for upscaling etc. I’m not sure if these companies are willing to invest in that cost if they can’t sell it outside their own ecosystem.

Another added benefit is that users won’t need to download titles. If they keep increasing in both fidelity and computational power, one must assume the size of a title will start surpassing 250GB.

Bear in mind I’m not a cloud advocate, but I mean I see the logical reason why companies are working their way towards it.

maybe they'll go multiplat and then release a new premium Xbox line not sold at a cost, very expensive, but very powerful, and say if you want to play best on console, it's still on Xbox.

watch out! Where it said Xbox Series now it says Console, and the Day 1 on Gamepass reference has been removed.

I wouldn't read too much into that yet, as Obsidian homepage states differently (https://avowed.obsidian.net/). Playground Games homepage for Fable doesn't mention any platform specifically, other than being an XB game studio.

And people will respond shut up don't care
agreed. That's sort of the issue with Xbox. And they know it. Everyone knows it. We've talked about it a million times, and the counter argument has always been about MS spending more money to try harder, or make better games. Even if they made the best games over and over and over, very few are going to make the jump. No one wants more than 1 box to play all their games. A few missed out titles here and there is fine, because the majority of peoples purchases are 3rd party games. They want a single sub to do everything, a single place for all their games. This is why Steam continues to dominate, and why Sony will continue to dominate. Nintendo made a strong move into mobile, and have locked that space up. The place for Xbox, is an area where folks want to go as well, in particular, I suspect, people who don't want to have to buy new hardware for games, and just leverage their existing devices for gaming time.

Not a new one I hope? As a PS owner you'll have to get used to Microsoft's non release schedule. It's been 16 years since the last one! 😁
I'd settle for a port of the excellent original game already playable on Xbox. I have so many fond memories by 100% everything on N64. I still have the game on N64 but I'd want that Platinum! :yep2:

Backpaddling or forward stroke, it's all damage control regardless of the direction. The fact that Microsoft is still addressing this divine comedy through unofficial means is still quite telling. I'm sure whatever original and official plans they had for PlayStation and/or Switch, the message will be more soften and curated on dampening the internet noise.

This sudden shift from oh shit!... to a nothing burger, can be more damaging in the future if Microsoft does offer their tentpole titles across other gaming systems.

also, the fact that they are creating an "exciting" business event is kinda telling. If this wasn't true, Phil Spencer could simply write a statement: "it's not true, there won't be Xbox exclusives running on other platforms". I think becoming third-party without leaving Xbox hardware is the way to go. Backpedaling might make some fans happy, but the Xbox isn't selling, it's a failure, and it won't sell in droves now if Phil Spencer goes all exclusive.

As usual, the initial uproar is going to be huge, but over time people will get over it and move on, it isn't that important.

It’s a bit of a double edge sword on this one. You can’t respond to rumors, otherwise people will just write whatever they want and say, well MS didn’t deny it, so it must be true. They are in an unfortunate position to be able to properly respond to this.

The incentive won't be strong enough when it will have a smaller library of games compared to PS5 (Pro?)

I wonder how @eastmen feels about it

well MS didn’t deny it, so it must be true.
Nintendo has shut off a lot of rumours which were shown to be inaccurate many times, it would be easy for MS to do the same.

Even Phil Spencer has done something similar when a rumour was truly false
