Elden Ring [2022-21-01] [PS, XB, PC]

.../sigh. Looks like life conspires to prevent me from playing this game. Looks like I'm one of the ones that is unable to play this game as it closes after starting with a white screen after the anti-cheat launches the game.

Solved. Holy shit I never would have thought to do it.

Evidently uninstalling the Epic Store Game Launcher fixes the issue. I didn't even know I still had that installed. I thought I'd uninstalled it over a year ago. Evidently even though it wasn't running some DLLs for it were still being loaded and were conflicting with Elden Ring.

Not sure why it was a problem for me. Streamers have the EGS launcher installed and didn't have that issue. Could be that since I haven't launched it in over a year that outdated DLLs were being loaded which was conflicting with the Easy Anti-Cheat program? Who knows, what a mess.

Regardless, I'll finally get to play. Thank you Steam forums for some random post by a guy and me trying every solution anyone posted to try to get this working. :p

So my review on PC performance 3070 48GB of memory etc. 1080p
With Gsync generally smooth.
There will be hitches and stutters from time to time. Some really bad slow downs as well.
I may try this on my TV since Gsync doesn't seem to matter and I think I can hold this at 60fps. But hard to tell how it'll perform on a 4K screen.

everything alex said came true.

So far it's running 60 FPS at my current settings on a 1070. Moving the camera isn't smooth and feels a bit "gritty". Some obvious frame pacing issues. VRR won't help with either of those.

Definitely a lazy port. The G key is hardbound and can't be changed. A problem for me since I use RDFG instead of WASD. This has finally forced me to install a key-rebinder so that I can rebind G to something else and something else to G in order to play the game. Using AutoHotkey which is overkill for this, but I needed something that didn't require a reboot. I wonder if there's a lighter keyboard remapper that I could use?

Other indications of a lazy port is that when using KBM, the on screen prompts are still using controller display. So, I'm having to translate those to my keybinds. It'll take a little bit until that becomes just a reflex.

Not unexpected from a Bandai Namco published game. Dynasty Warriors 8 and 9 were also pretty janky and were even worse when it came to keybinds.

Could be better, but the game is so good I'm willing to put up with the jankiness. So glad I can finally play it.

[edit] also, whatever they are using for compositing some of the UI and menus is really bad. In game while playing I'm getting 60 FPS. In menus it drops to under 30 FPS with dips into the teens.

SB

You can change the prompts in the settings to kb/m.

The game is really designed for controller but we know how you feel about them, so good luck.

Hell yeah. Thanks for letting me know. I never would have thought to look for a setting for that.

You get Torrent (the horse) yet?

Lemme know how you feel about it after you do... :/

Seems fine so far. No better or worse than on foot at the settings I've chosen to run the game at. It may dip a little more often, but it's still generally 60 FPS.

I honestly can't believe it.

My experience is completely different.

Maybe lower your settings? I'm running a mix of High-Mid-Low settings with some things turned off (DoF, Motion blur, etc.) because I don't like those things being on in games.

So, it's been fine so far. Ryzen 3700x and a GTX 1070. Haven't run into any massive stutters yet, but then I'm still mostly in the starting area exploring. I'm interested to see how my system handles it when I get to that one boss that gave Cohh massive freezes.

I've ran the game at the lowest settings with the lowest resolution and the overworld still has massive lurches often. It's ridiculous lmao.

I'm glad it's working good for you though.

I have a 3900X and a 2080ti, for the record. Latest drivers, latest build of Windows 11 as well. Game is set to to "high performance" and my shader cache is set to unlimited. Really disappointing.

760 000 players on steam, while europe and asia was sleeping. Doing the ~ sustained steam CCU number times 8 guestimate gives us 6 million copies sold just like that. PC became the dominant platform for everything souls related ever since Dark Souls 2, when PC was 50% of all franchise sales and the other 50% was four console skus combined. Its mind blowing that 8 years later and they dont release the most pristine and first class PC version ever. And after they sell 20-30 million copies of Elden Ring, the next game is still gonna look like some subpar, low cost AA release for some reason, as if it barelly sells anything

Its getting hammered on steam user reviews, (sure they are user reviews) but it shows out of touch the 97% metacritic was and remember they reviewed the game without the day one patch, thus it was even in a worse playable state
To all those that bought the game sorry but you've been

I know this is a crazy notion and all, but being a gamer and caring about playing games, can your share your thoughts of the game itself. Put aside the technical issues.. :yep2:

A/ Im not a gamer
B/ This is chiefly a technical fourm, I'll point you to the text at the bottom of this page
Beyond3D has been around for over a decade and prides itself on being the best place on the web for in-depth, technically-driven discussion and analysis of 3D graphics hardware. If you love pixels and transistors, you've come to the right place!

Maybe, like cp2077 did, the pc version (and console versions maybe, technical problems there too) can have its own seperate topic where technical complaints/discussions can be held?

I understand what DSoup means, the topic has become a complaint-wall. The game itself is barely duscussed.
