This thread is about egg and faces...

Looking at the last several posts it is going to be pretty funny to see which people in this thread actually do end up with that runny Egg Action. 8)

You mean besides you? That seems to be one of the constants of the universe, regardless of whether it's an NVIDIA or ATI launch (Overdrive, anyone?). 8)

Hey man, HB was right about "Overdrive" being revolutionary. I mean, for people who don't know a damn thing about overclocking, it made it easier for them to blindly attempt to kill their cards for a whopping 1 FPS extra in games! Even better results were achieved in 3DMark, where it really counts!

That feature alone killed any features nVidia could ever come out with...

*Sorry HB, he did get'cha there...

The "X800 Pro" picture is identical to the other picture, only with a fraps counter..

    It has to be fake.

even if it was real, theres nothing in that screenshot that seems to be stressing anything. mostly consist of water and a skybox which really isnt
    anything.

we dont know the min fps, or max fps, or average fps. we dont know the resolution or AA/AF settings.

so there is NOTHING to compare on.

and if you think a x800pro is 70% faster than a 6800ultra, your smoking on something hallucinogenic.

True the picture isn't real but then again we don't have a R420 in our hands so for all we know it could be 70% faster in some cases. Take a step back and look at the big picture before spouting senseless biased crap. Oh and I thought it was the CEO of nVidia that was smoking something hallucinogenic...

Depends on how complex the water shader is.

And hopefully nobody will say this is less important that "better image quality when using 3.0 compared to 2.0".

I'm a touch confused now with all the back and forth.

Isn't instancing done in VS 3.0?

SM 3.0 includes VS and PS 3.0, but can a card support VS3.0 without having PS 3.0?

While R420 might not have PS 3.0, could it have VS 3.0? Personally, I like what I've seen with the VS update the most so far.

Is it possible those two FC shots were slides in ATi's presentation, and ATi showed the FRAPS shot second after asking the audience to guess a framerate?

You know, what seems so ridiculous to me about all of this nonsense about ps3.0 versus ps2.0, is simply that I would have thought nVidia would have done far more than produce a 3rd-party mod for Far Cry, which according to the Far Cry developers displays as well on ps2.0 as it does on ps3.0. I mean, that's hardly a ringing endorsement for something you really might think is a profound feature in your products, is it?...;)

So, nVidia has yet to convince me that nVidia is overly impressed with ps3.0 in comparison to ps2.0, at least to the degree that nVidia would have had a bunch of in-house demos ready for the nV40 launch to clearly illustrate such differences as nVidia fans wholeheartedly have convinced themselves must exist between 2 & 3. Rather, I think nVidia is just pleased as punch to have at last been able to produce (at least in prototype) a decently performing ps2.0 product...;)
