Well we're 1 month and counting to the biggest console gaming news event of the year.

What do you want to see announced? Games, hardware, etc?

What company do you think will have the biggest news? Which company has the most to loose or gain?

What far-out announcements would you be surprised to see?

A look back at last year's show might be a good place to start...

I would suspect that Sony/Microsoft are about even in that they have the most to lose. They have to prove their new controller offspring are more than unwanted illegitimate unwanted bastard offspring of the Wiimote and as they are both devoting a large proportion of their efforts to this arena a failure here would put quite a large dampener on the rest of their E3 presentations.

Nintendo potentially has the most to gain in terms of core gamer acceptance of their 3DS hardware. They have the most to gain if they can somehow gain wide acceptance of their new handheld from the core gamer/tech savvy crowd in terms of stealing limelight away from Apple and the other console manufacturers. However if they don't succeed here they have proved that they have more than enough sway over a wider audience to make a failure at E3 non-critical for this handheld.

From Microsoft I want to see a range of relevant applications made available for the Xbox 360 both inside and outside of gaming. I want a wider release of TV/Movie on demand to more countries with more content but mostly I want a legitimate Natal application store so we can truely explore what is possible with the interface from a practical standpoint and finally turn the Xbox 360 into more than a media hub. A browser would be nice too! It would be very disapointing if the potential of Natal is limited by Microsoft closed mindedness.

From Sony I want to see some ground up concepts for the Move controller which aren't simply rehashes of Wii games but either legitimate improvement for everyone over any percieved shortcomings and games which have not been done on the Wiimote to prove that they have something more than a bad Wiimote knockoff.

From Nintendo I want to see the 3DS take a vast step in improvement over the previous DS in terms of performance and content on demand. I also want to see what the hell the vitality sensor can do.

Overall I think this is Nintendos show right now coming into it, but anyone can steal it from them.

I agree that both Microsoft & Sony have the most to loose with the announcements of their new motion controls, but I also think they have the most to gain. Other than the 3DS I don't expect anything exciting coming from Nintendo. Though they do have to follow up with their Vitality Sensor announcement from last year.

What do I want to see?

From Nintendo: A full public demonstration of the 3DS would be great. My wife and I are pretty excited about that. We're both wondering if it's something worth waiting for to replace our DS. Next from Nintendo I'd like to see is a price drop on the Wii. We still haven't pulled the trigger on buying one of those yet. Loved to see it dropped to around $125. And hopefully they will finally build the Motion+ sensor into the remote.

From Sony: New Move games & pricing on the bundles. Hopefully a price drop on the PS3 too. Details on the PSP2 would be neat, but that's one of those things I'll be very surprised if we see or hear anything about. It will most likely be shown behind closed doors under NDA.

From Microsoft: Most excited to see the redesigned 360. I'm interested to see how they handle the hard drive(internal or external) and if the DVD drive is slot loaded or not. We're already going to be getting details on Natal. So that's a given, but let's just hope that Microsoft can come up with a great name for it. I think if they leave it as just 'Natal' they'll get a lot of flack, and rightfully so. Pricing of the redesigned 360 & Natal is going to be paramount. That announcement will make or break their show. Natal games will also have a big effect on their showing, but since it looks like Microsoft is treating its introduction like launching another console I suspect they'll have a good variety of games to show. Hopefully something in there will get me excited. So far nothing has. There are also a lot of little things from Microsoft I'm excited about.

  • Halo: Reach single player details
  • BigPark's JoyRide
  • Added Xbox Live apps & features(now that the original Xbox Live is turned off). Hopefully more than just an expanded friends list since I don't need it. They need a Hulu player. I would love to be able to quit using PlayOn.
  • More details on Live Anywhere and Windows Phone 7
  • New features for Indie Games, maybe some real leaderboards and achievements?! :)

What about the game companies? Not much has me excited. Though I would love to hear some details on Batman: Arkham Asylum 2. Hopefully they have a better name. It would also be nice to see something from Respawn. Other than that, that's about it.

I dont see how people are expecting new 360 SKU's at E3. I doubt those are even close to ready. So why just destroy your hardware sales for 4 months by saying "hey, we've got a much better unit and price drops coming!".

SKU announcements and price drops have happened at E3 before. Microsoft hasn't always waited till August/September for those announcements. Could they wait? Sure, but I'm not totally convinced they will. They could do what they did at E3 2008: temporarily drop the price to clear existing inventory & make room for the newer SKU in the fall. I suspect that if Sony announces a price drop for the PS3 or Move's launch price, then you can expect Microsoft to be forced to do the same. Otherwise, I think you might be right: they could sit on the price announcements till later in the fall.

BTW, as for the new 360 SKU not being ready, I point you to this...

Has there been any confirmation that the 360 slim rumor goes beyond that HD DVD-looking box?

Actually that was all that was. There's been no rumors of the actual design. In fact, all that has been leaked is the motherboard.

Sony will be all about move and GT.

MS will have a big e3. I expect them to be there with the redesigned 360 + natal + windows phone 7 gaming out the ass. I expect tthem to really push the xbox live intergration with the phone.

Nintendo... mabye 3ds ?

Things I want to see:

-Killzone 3
-Gears 3
-Motorstorm 3
-Fable 3
(whats up with all this 3's ??)
-Crysis 2
-The Agent
-Eight Days
-Secret/unanounced exclusive project 1
-Secret/unanounced exclusive project 2
-Secret/unanounced exclusive project 3
.
.
.

And some additional news bombs:
- MS&Sony agree to refuse motion controll ("we don't want fitness obsessed mommies to play our consoles")
-MS&Sony agree to refuse 3D gaming ("want to focus on AAA titles")
-MS&Sony sign contract: first Xbox360 exclusive dev'd by Sony Tech Ninja's ("new area of console gaming")

If MS does have a new model 360 this year, I don't think they'll show it at E3, not unless they plan to release it right after E3.

I predict at least 5GB worth of game footage streaming to my desk, execs embarrassing themselves on stage, while the games press forms and swirls into a coherent thundercloud of incompetence. It will be mildly entertaining.

All I ask is we are left with some interesting surprises. The internet is great and all, but sometimes all the leaks just spoil it all.

I want some megatonnes!

xbox 360's are getting harder to find each month. So i seems like they are working through stock.

Remember they discounted the 20 gig premiums for a little over a month before the 60 gig verisons came out. So i don't see why they can't announce a redesign at $200 and drop the current consoles to $150. Esp since the current console packages all seem to have 2 games with them. The value wll be there for those who do not care about size

MS - Will push Natal pretty heavy and really, why not a 360 Slim?? It makes sense to me. Probably see new 360's wit bigger hard drives. My slim chance prediction is, built in wireless. Reason, 360 has to by now be very easy to produce, adding that shouldn't cut in to their profit all that much.. Toss that in already MS.

Nintendo - I'm not big on them at all really. I think they will pretty much focus on software this E3. They, IMO change their systems to often. They need to let the market soak in the new Wii motion plus and all these new DS models. Slim chance predictions, 1) Wii HD or a mention of the next true "Wii", 2) No more DS upgrades, they could talk about their next portable.

Sony - Move is obviously gonna be a focus here, but they need a bombshell in the software department. Move looks nice and all but show us some other than gimmicky crap, I like that the next SOCOM is being shown using it but that is not the hook they need. Hardware side, bigger hard drive again is possible. Probably gonna and should have a PS3 Move Bundle as a SKU. Software prediction, I think it's time to see a new Sly Cooper and Jax and Daxter. My very slim chance prediction for Sony is new PSP

If sony do have a focus on Move it better not be the same stuff we have already seen. Im not convinced they are going to have too much new on that front to be honest going by the software they showed at the last event, i just got the impression that if they had something really impressive to show they would have showed it there. Hopefully they do have something cool, maybe the return of Eight Days as a Move game would make a good impression, the tech demos we saw were very impressive and would show well to crowds as a technical showcase, i think the gameplay would suit Move controls well.

The only think that get me excited for this E3 is the level of performance that the 3DS will provide :)
A PSP2 would be a great news too but I'll put the odds close to 0% till a bit too early.
