I'm a little bit all over the place with my PS3 expectations right now.

After PS2 expectations prior to launch, I'm right there with you heh.

I didn't mean it in a bad way (not sure if you did either, but generally people tend to invoke pre-ps2 expectations in negative terms ;)). I expect PS3 to be pretty killer, technically, just with regard to some specifics (like distribution of graphics processing across chips), I'm not sure what to expect.

I'm a little bit all over the place with my PS3 expectations right now. I had convinced myself that a pixel-only GPU was a lock (looking at Cell it seems too obvious, and with the rumours of NVidia's next-gen GPU seperating vertex and pixel functionality to different chips..), but according to someone who I believe is well-informed on another board, it won't be a pixel-only chip..

Hmm, what to think, what to think...

Hello Nirey :D

I know what you mean. I was/am really hoping for a setup where the Cell handles vertex and the GPU is left with Pixel. It just seems like it would a) save silicon on the GPU, and b) put some of those bad-boy SPE's to work!

Maybe I'm just too much a fan of exotic architectures and such. Whatever the case though, I hope that whatever form the GPU implementation takes, it's clear in the end that that choice was indeed the best choice.

Not negative, realistic. If cell ends up making toast and fries, all the better! =P

My expectations for PS3 are simply that it will be at least as powerful as 360. And I expect 360 to be freaking amazing based on everything I've heard (512MB RAM, new next-generation GPU, beefy CPU). I don't expect PS3 to blow it away the way PS2 did to Dreamcast, but I don't discount the possibility either.
